I'd question the development more than the talent. Melton and Keller both had several FBS offers, Keller from a couple P5 schools. Clearly they passed the eye test to a lot of people, but then neither of them even stay at the D-1 level? Not great.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:43 pmWhich at some point has to make one question the talent assessment and development ability of the self proclaimed QB guru. Upon arrival 4 years ago I believed in short order we would have a stable of talented QB’s, where if one went down, the other would step in not missing a beat. Nothing close to that ever came to be.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:33 pmAnd Keller (who I thought was going to be a starter here) is buried in the depth chart at Tiffin. Tucker Melton did see the field and not just looking at it. However, fans who saw him play probably wished he hadn't. Two games 2 for 10 passing 23 yards plus an interception for a 19.3 QB rtg. He was the starter at West Alabama this year and was acceptable there for a team with a losing record.

Throw in the Rube Goldberg offense too…BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:47 pmI'd question the development more than the talent. It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

As a kid...one of Scot's favorite games was Mouse Trap.

When I worked at the Museum in Toledo one of my favorite co workers was an old guy named Gene...he played football at UT when it was TU and still knew some folks around town involved in the sport. When Keller signed with BG he said..."Keller is going to have to play LB, won't make it at QB"
Gene the Polish Kid knew....

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
He could leave, but the starting QB at Long Island doesn't expect to transfer to BG to start. Get a chance and to start are 2 different things. I would imagine it will be an open QB competitiong that Bazelak will winBillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:46 pmI'm with Rogue here. He definitely came in with the sell "you'll be the backup this season and have a shot at starting next season." When they bring in someone like Bazelak, that starting shot pretty much goes out the window barring injury, which is not ideal.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:38 pmThose are two different things. Your binary thinking always hurts you. I’m sure he was sold the “we will develop you” story and you will have an equal shot at starting.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:24 pmI doubt Orth expected to start when he transferred here. I could see him beating out Menard for the primary backup role. Then it's all happenstance for what happens in the season with injuries and play.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:08 amAssuming Bazelak will be a two year starter, I have to imagine Orth will be in the portal come spring.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:54 am Found out this morning that Bazelak & Menard will both have two years of eligibility left.

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
A lot of assumptions being made. Orth filled a position of need after some attrition at QB. We don't know what he was told. Seems like a competition for the job will begin in spring ball.
