I wouldn't take that bet. I tend to agree.Falcon30 wrote:I bet this is what we would end up with...Falcon30 wrote:
Your bold white outline solves the orange-on-orange problem much better than my suggestion of replacing the orange on the sticker with white.
It looks good.

Re: One more
That falcon logo would still be very hard to see from far away. The falcon head would have to include alot of white or bold dark brown to been seen decently.Schadenfreude wrote:I wouldn't take that bet. I tend to agree.Falcon30 wrote:I bet this is what we would end up with...Falcon30 wrote:

Personally, I'm pretty darn satisfied with the helmet we already have. I think the change from the traditional filled-in logo to just the logo outline was a huge improvement on an already classic design. I honestly have no idea where all of this speculation came from, other than a second-hand rumor (to my knowledge - please correct me if I'm wrong), and quite frankly, all of this speculation makes me a bit uncomfortable.
You see, in my opinion, BGSU has some very rich, and very deep, football traditions. We have changed our uniforms over the years, as all schools have, but since 1981, we have been one of the very few D1A schools to stick with, essentially, the same helmet design. Plus, the base of our helmet design (orange with a brown and white stripe) has been a staple of our uniforms for four decades or more. And that design, to me, is a constant reminder of the historic link between BGSU and the Cleveland Browns - a link that, to my knowledge, no other collegiate team can claim with a professional franchise. That, to me, is a point of pride, and I think it should be for everyone regardless of which NFL franchise your loyalties may lie.
I guess what I'm trying to say, very bluntly, is leave something alone. I can tolerate changes to uniforms, athletic logos, and even the composition of our playing surface, but I would like one little thing to remain the same. I don't want a white or brown helmet. It saddens me to go through the helmet project page at www.nationalchamps.net and see all of the schools that have changed their helmet designs every couple of years over the past few decades (many examples of which are in our own conference). I don't want any Cardinal-esqe sabre tooth stripes, and I don't want any helmet designs based on some fad helmet design (and we all know how quickly they come and go). I would like this one piece of our football lineage to remain intact. Perhaps it is the historian in me that makes me have this preservationist reaction to something that, I'm sure to a lot of you folks, may seem minuscule. Still, I am of the opinion that if we change everything, and hold on to nothing, it becomes increasingly more difficult to hold on to our past.
As Falcons, we have a heck of a lot to be proud of, and a lot of our building blocks of our pride are related to what our teams have accomplished on the gridiron. I would like alumni of BGSU, and especially football alumni, to be able to come back to football games and see something recognizable. No matter how much our uniforms, field, or stadium may change, our helmets can be that one element that can make people say "ahh, now that is familiar!" This is an important element of keeping alumni engaged, and this could be the one place, in football terms, that we maintain that connection. What I am asking is that, rather than make general speculations about what our helmets might look like (although I do always admire people's design skills), we fight for what we already have. If we want to change to a uniform logo design, as an institution, then so be it. I have no problem with the retail mark whatsoever. But, make this be our statement of how important our own history is to our present and future.

I'm actually gonna have to agree with the long-winded one here. I look at the helmet project and see the similar style for most of our history, and I like it. The arguments that you can't see the logo now, or people don't know what it is are bunk. WE know what it is, and we should take pride in it. How many people are going to know what the retail logo is? They might be able to make out "bird" more than some that aren't familiar with the LT Falcon, but that doesn't mean they'll immediately identify it with BG. That part comes with winning, and I'd rather have us win and people identify us by a pretty classic tradition than by something that was designed to sell t-shirts.
Don't get me wrong, I love the creative ideas that are thrown out there here, but when it comes down to it, the helmet should stay just the way it is, IMO.

I will gladly third that motion BO.
I did like the look of the white helmet w/ the retail logo, but to be honest, I still like our current helmet. I'm not a big fan of any of the new logos. The interlocking BG one is especially awful. I like our helmet just the way it is...I preferred the white in the middle of the falcon, but either way I still like it as it sits currently better than any of the mockups.
Stick with tradition, please.
