This thread is totally amusing. I can't believe you people rip on one of the best marching bands in college sports. It's not that big of a deal. I've been going to BG Football games since 1983, and the Falcon Marching Band rocks! The reason "Sweet Caroline" finished while a play was going on, was that they had to wait for the something on the scoreboard to finish. Yeah, it was off time, but sometimes timing doesn't work out. Get over it! And by the way, for all you football bitchers, you missed a hell of a hockey game at the Ice Arena. And admission was FREE. Speed, Scoring, Bone-crunching hits, you name it. And the Falcons won 5-1. Falcon Hockey...try it sometime. It's awesome! The Football team will get it back together. I have the faith. Was I disappointed? Heck Yes. Will I stop going to the games? Hell no! Why? Because I'm a Bowling Green State University Falcon...period.

When that band marches by in formation shoutin' "Beat (insert opponent)!" I get the same feeling that I get when I see any Falcon team or organization working in unity with a sense of purpose. Seeing these kids give it thier all has more rewards than.., well, I can't think of anything.

That would be awesome! Maybe we could get the football team to make a tunnel for us to run through onto the field!!!BGfootballfan wrote:I am sure we would get 20,000 for the Toledo-BG band off with concession stands and everything. Maybe I'm not following all the logic on the last post, but maybe this isn't such a bad idea. I can't think of anybody benefiting more than the FB team. They need a massive injection of spirit more than anybody. Uplifting, Team Building, Spirit. Whatever it takes. The Niz wrote:That would be awesome! I will keep this initial response to this thread brief, however I will say that a much longer response will be forthcoming.
Hammb, I respect your concerns and your opinions. Always have, for as long as I've been on here. It is rather unfortunate though that someone else chose to take your thoughts and turn it into a "lets bash the band" festival.
I am thoroughly disappointed. To be frank, I'm offended and just plain p*ssed off. Things happen, bud. People make mistakes. Drum majors overshoot on playing time, band members miss cutoffs, cheerleaders miss spots, dance team members miss counts and sometimes The Birds and SICSIC have their off days too. Yeah, it is a FOOTBALL game (sorry, my caps lock button got stuck too), but if you had none of those peripheral things to enhance the experience....trust me, you'd leave the game early or not go at all.
I will say that yes, I am biased. As a 5-year member of the FMB, I know what all goes into a football game experience. And trust me, I have yet to meet anyone in the FMB, past or present, who believes they are more significant than the football team...let alone anything else on the BG campus.
What makes me even more upset....is the fact that not only are you knocking on the FMB...but you are also talking a pretty big game on their ALUMNI BAND as well. In case you forgot...we, the proud FMB alumni, were in attendance Saturday and we played just as much as the FMB during the first half. Sometimes even RIGHT AFTER the FMB...and yeah, a few times we cut it close too. Again, stuff happens man...but if you're gonna say something, get it all together before you do.
If I didnt have to go to a meeting, I'd keep going...
To anyone associated with the FMB - past AND present: you rock. keep up the good work, whether you like what choices are made. you are keeping a great deal of history alive everytime you take the field. great job this weekend!

I'm probably the only person on here that finds that funny since I was at the volleyball game Friday and the entire football team was there, and they were very spirited in cheering for the volleyball during the ladies big win over Ohio. That overnight stay in a hotel must of sucked the spirit out of themFortWayneFalcon wrote:Maybe I'm not following all the logic on the last post, but maybe this isn't such a bad idea. Your experience trumps my view from row 32. I apologize to all the members of the band past and present. I did not mean them to be called out. I simply noticed the band playing into the start of the play when playing Sweet Caroline. I probably wouldn't even have noticed it if not for the fact that I hate that song so much.
I certainly didn't want this to become a bash the band thread. I'd be in favor of just deleting the damn thing.
