Mick McCall should be our next head coach. The players would definitely respect him.

I think McCall would be a good choice.

I thought so too ... now that he's been an OC at a Big 10 team too, he's sure to get noticed and if we don't take him, its a matter of time until somebody else does and thus scores a solid coach.Falconfreak90 wrote:Metz,Metz wrote:Mick McCall should be our next head coach. How many years does he have in D-1? I think it is less than three.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:I think he ends up in the MAC, but at Miami, thats the rumor going around on another message board I go toOptionQB wrote:Cincinnati- Kerry Coombs (I think he's still there. He was our QB coach for a good 4 years at least! He was here through the Harris and Omar days.tiznow wrote: How many years does he have in D-1? I think it is less than three.

I believe he's talking about Coombs, Metz. But yeah I think that McCall would be good also. He knows this system and several of the players and has had good success, BUT I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't leave after just one year at a Big Ten school. If he stays there for a few more years I could see him becoming the head coach there if NU's moves on.
Pat Fitzgerald was a star at Northwestern and I assume that he wants to spend a long time in Evanston. If McCall is going to be a head coach, I think it will be somewhere other than Northwestern.drumstix2388 wrote:I believe he's talking about Coombs, Metz. Wow, I stopped reading the quoted text and was just reading the responses. Haha...count that as another dumbazz comment by me!drumstix2388 wrote:I believe he's talking about Coombs, Metz.

Oh okay I didn't realize that...still wouldn't expect him to leave after one year unless it was an irrefusable offer.BGGrad01 wrote:Pat Fitzgerald was a star at Northwestern and I assume that he wants to spend a long time in Evanston. Considering how MANY HC jobs are "open" right now (4 in MAC, Syracuse, Miss. St., Wash., N.Mex.St. etc.), I'd think we'd HAVE to be thinking in terms of 250K to start...that's a heck of a lot more than GB got, but don't see how we can get the "right guy" if everyone else sees him as THEIR "right guy" too. It could become a bidding war on some top candidates, IMO.NWLB wrote:Nevermind who for now. How much are we going to pay? And how else do we make this job appealing now that we are facing losses in grants, thanks to the outgoing coaching staff? Certainly, the physical assets and talent left on the team may be a bit better than it was when we had to hire Urban.

The guys at Blue Gray Sky came up with a Coaching Broadsheet that ranks all the coaches in the NCAA and NFL. They were doing this in the event Charlie Weis get fired at Notre Dame.
I thought it was pretty interesting and timely...
