Globe, the point is all of those ten guys think they will be the next heisman winner. And the way smoke is blown up their ass and their egos are fed throughout the recruiting process why wouldn't they?

18 year olds tend to be irrational....

Completely agree. But if I am Dave Clawson I go to a kid with that very list and say 3 of 13 guys make it at Bama. You come to BG and you will be our feature back.

THey won't listen because he wouldn't be telling them what they want to hear...if Bama is telling all of them they're great and good enough to play in the SEC, they aren't going to want to listen to some guy from podunk Ohio telling them they aren't.

In the decades long history of college football recruiting, do you honestly think you're the first guy to hit upon this concept? This is why a single guy with a gun can hold off a group of guys without a gun...if they rush him, they'll get the gun, but somebody's getting shot. You want to be the guy who gets shot? No... do you wanna be the kid that looks at an offer from Bama and a chance at greatness and says, "no that's not for me...I'm trying the MAC".

If you're an 18 year old kid who's been told the sun shines out of your ass...that kind of thinking doesn' even enter your brain.

Cool minute by minute details of what goes on during signing day.

I think its a good point, (given without much tact so it makes it harder for me to admit it). But I think if it was used more often and done really well you could convince atleast a few kids to come here. And I don't just mean Alabama. That was the school that was mentioned so I looked at them. What about guys we are competing with a school like Pitt for. Or Iowa State. There have to be some rational 18 year olds. Have a nice presentation with all the burnouts at the schools that they are thinking of and where they are now.

Another point is the kid could just say I will go Pitt/OSU/MSU a try and if I wash out I will come your way. That opens things up for a different kind of recruiting strategy. Lots of transfers like Givens. You put in your time in 2009 and paint that picture I mentioned for him, build some loyalty so when things are not going great for him he knows their is a viable alternative. Maybe the Givens recruitment will be a blue print to get better players here.

No doubt, 18 year old kids think they are unstoppable, but in recruiting you have stick with it beyond signing day. Yes, BG will lose vs top BCS recruiters most every time. However, 1 or 2 years later, some realize their mistake and they remember the impression BG made on them. That is also because our recruiters stick with it even well beyond signing day. That's how we got Malik Stokes, Jeron Stokes and Andre Givens. The latter two were guys BG recruited and lost but because the relationship our staff made with them and their families, Stokes' little brother walked on and Jeron followed. Givens remembered us and came on board years later.

I think its well worth the effort establishing those relationships even if the odds are way against us at the beginning.

That is a concern, for sure. Class of 61 had a pretty in depth conversation with the coaches about that very issue at the Signing Day event. I told Coach McDaniel there is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much talent in NE Ohio (Cleve, Akron, Canton, Ytown) for BG not to be getting at least a few every year. Hopefully that changes next year.

BTW, Jack Snowball of Wadsworth signed with Miaudi. This kid NEVER fumbled in HS and touched the ball quite a bit. I was hoping he would end up at BG. At least with our move to the West, we won't see him unless Miaudi wins the East and plays us in title game this year. :D
Saw Snowball play in the HS playoffs ... A big tough kid though, who had a rough night running on the Whitmer defense...
Just about everybody had trouble running on the Whitmer D last season...

I think Jack's injury history scared most all D1's off, but we were glad to see Miami pick him up. Although they probably made the late offer because they knew some of their other RB's were going to bow out headed into Signing Day. I see him more as a Special Teams player though.
