Marketing? Pfft. No. We just need to win games more consistently. Our market is so small that winning is going to be the prime driving force behind attendance. If you get loyalty, then you won't have to worry about marketing too much.

I wouldn't say it's embarrassing either. Especially considering how strong the MAC is this year. NIU, Kent, Toledo, and Ball St. are all respectfully ahead of us. Most years we wouldn't have this much competition for the MAC bowl spots, but this year we do.

I mean, heck, we went 9-3 in 2002 and didn't go bowling. It happens.
When we were winning attendance wasn't that great. People just don't care about this program. I went to a game and met 5-8 recent alums who I tailgated with. They were there to get food and hangout with friends. They couldn't care less about the game and talked more about the "real game" that we saw today. There is almost zero connection with the sports programs and the student body and alums. It might not seem that way because we are insulated by being with the die hards on here. If I wasn't on this board I couldn't find a person who cared enough about BG football to even look up the score.

And Rice just scored on a 97-yard kickoff for TD to make it a two-score game.....unbelievable.

Tulsa at SMU (need Tulsa to win) LOST
Conneticut at Louisville (need Louisville to win) LOST
Indiana at Purdue (need Indiana to win) LOST
Rutgers at Pittsbugh (need Rutgers to win) LOST
Virginia at Virginia Tech (need Virginia to win) LOST
Baylor vs Texas Tech (need Texas Tech to win) LOST
Troy at Middle Tennessee (need Middle Tennessee to win) WON
Vanderbilt at Wake Forest (need Vanderbilt to win) WON
Michigan State at Minnesota (need Minnesota to win) LOST
Rice at UTEP (need UTEP to win) LOST
Mississippi State at Mississippi (need Mississippi State to win) LOST
Missouri at Texas A&M (need Texas A&M to win) WON

Well, there were 12 games today and in terms of games in BG's favor, they went a very disappointing 3-9. If the games would have at least split, BG would have locked up a spot tonight. There are now 71 teams bowl-eligible (70 spots) with two more teams (UConn and Pitt) still with a chance to get in next week. Meaning, instead of getting in tonight, we have to wait another week and hope like hell they both lose. If one or both get in, BG very well could be on the outside looking in. I feel confident we'll get picked in front of CMU but if it comes down to 73 teams for 70 spots, we're going to be right there at the cut.

71 eligible teams. Pitt likely wins against USF. UConn likely losses against UC.

Central Michigan misses out and Western Kentucky is on the bubble.

Also Georgia Tech probably gets kicked out after finishing 6-7 after a loss to FSU next week in the ACC title game.

Call down everyone, we're gonna be bowling.

If the total ends up 72 and BG gets left out, then OU would go. I like BG's position for a bowl better than OU's right now. That's assuming Central Michigan is the last option for most bowls.

70 teams according to Jerry Palm. GA Tech will be out if they lose next week in the ACC title game, which he is already accounting for. So, if either Pitt or UConn win next week, CMU is likely out. If both win, then who knows besides CMU that misses out. I think BG is fine though.

CBS Sports has updated their projections and has BG playing UL-Monroe in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Jerry Palm's MAC predictions

GoDaddy.com - Kent State vs. Arkansas State
BBVA Compass - BGSU vs. UL-Monroe
Liberty - Tulsa vs. Ball State
Independence - LA Tech vs. Ohio
Military - CMU vs. San Jose St. (CMU likely a loose projection)
Pizza Bowl - NIU vs. Western Kentucky
Potato Bowl - Toledo vs. Utah State

We won 7 of our last 8 games and there is legitimate discussion that we do not make a bowl. If that is not the biggest sign of how little we matter in the national landscape then I don't know what is. It doesn't matter how good we are. We are much closer to Findlay then OSU. We are getting left behind.

Calm down, Frances...we're arguably the 4th-5th best team in a mid-major league. We deserve to go bowling, but it's not like we're knocking on the door of a natioal ranking or anything, so we have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

I believe Georgia Tech will still be able to go if they lose in the ACC championship because I think a team can come in .500 into a conference championship and lose and still go (see Miami-Ohio and UCLA). I don't think they can be penalized for a loss in the championship game from going to a bowl.
