Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Here is there list of options....Should Clawson leave I imagine same of these names (Drayton, Cristobal, Diaco) should be on our list as well.
"In addition to Bowles, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, Temple defensive coordinator Chuck Heater, New York Giants assistant offensive line coach Matt Rhule, former Florida International coach Mario Cristobal, Ohio State running backs coach Stan Drayton, and Miami defensive coordinator Mike D’Onofrio also interviewed for the position, according to sources."

@schadjoe: Bob Diaco of Notre Dame and Dave Clawson of Bowling Green a few possible candidates to keep in mind at Wisconsin
@BadgerSportsNow: Report: Dave Clawson In Mix for Badger Job
Once again just speculation, if its any interest to you guys, alot of Wisconsin faithful have been ranting their displeasure with this news. As a Falcon fan I feel frustrated because Dave has done a heck of a job. On the other hand, I at times am not happy with his choices. Overall, makes me continue to hate Wisconsin more and more each and every day

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Barry Alvarez was supposedly in NW Ohio the other day interviewing Matt Campbell, but Campbell was in Boise with the Rockettes. Anyone else he could have been talking to?

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Could have just been meeting someone there. It's fairly common for coaches to be interviewed at neutral locations. Or just recruiting in the area. I would be shocked if Wisconsin hired Clawson.transfer2BGSU wrote:Barry Alvarez was supposedly in NW Ohio the other day interviewing Matt Campbell, but Campbell was in Boise with the Rockettes. Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
If I had to pick one guess, I'd say he was in NW Ohio doing some recruiting.
If I had two guesses, I'd say he was talking to a coach from the extended region, like Greg Mattison or Pat Narduzzi, at a neutral site. Alvarez has been really close lipped about this. Other ADs should learn a lesson or two.

Saw that former NFLer Mike Furrey is being rumored at WMU. Nothing on the Kent State front.Globetrotter wrote:Any word on Kent State or the Directional Michigan replacement?

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
According to Pete Thamel from SI, Al Golden is the favorite for the Wisconsin job. Decision likely today.

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Al Golden turned down the Wisconsin job. He wants to stay at Miami.
Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
In other hiring news, David Sayler, asst AD at BG 2001-2005, is the new AD at Miami.
Damn it, I was hoping they would want to hire a Miami grad, and I had a candidate in mind! Ok, maybe Miami, FL, will want a "Miami" guy!

I also would not be shocked if Alvarez coaches next year as an interim. He wants to land a big name coach I'm sure and it is hard to do that at this point in the coaching change season. I could see him being the coach next year while taking a long time to find the right replacement.

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
No way, all one needs to do is look at the Illinois hire of Beckman. The alumni want him gone like yesterday. Clawson can coach and builds a program the right way but the Wisconsin job isn't a fit now or ever for coach Clawson.sum1udontknow wrote:Via Twitter

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
He will have a hard time finding a big name that will be OK with him looking over their shoulder constantly. The fact Bielemna left there for the 6th or 7th best job in the SEC tells you the impression of the Big Ten.MarkL wrote:I also would not be shocked if Alvarez coaches next year as an interim. I would. Just hire the ND coordinator and you're good to go.MarkL wrote:I also would not be shocked if Alvarez coaches next year as an interim. Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
I just have to say I'm really impressed with Barry Alvarez. I read a press conference he held that he's had several interviews and has one more candidate to go. Outside of hearing that Al Golden said no and Mike Riley or someone on his staff is a target, all the twitter / rumor world has heard is speculation. No other concrete names, no "sources" identifying an interview with a candidate, only speculation. Speculation that he might be interviewing somebody in a certain location because he happens to be in said location at the time; nobody knows if he is interviewing a candidate, speaking with a recruit, or maybe speaking with a booster about a big donation. He is keeping this search very quiet, as are his candidates, all while preparing for the Rose Bowl.
I find this incredibly impressive, and I think other ADs should take note. Every time there's a big opening, you see loads of rumors going out by "sources", by people close to the search who can't keep their traps shut about the coaching search. When such leaks to the rumor world happen, there are two major possibilities of the cause: 1, the AD has folks around him break the news prematurely or 2, the candidate coach allows such a leak to happen to let other ADs know that they must move quickly and offer a lot if they want his services. The fact that neither is happening on a search of such a high profile job as Wisconsin is truly impressive.
Also, I must say if I were Alvarez, I know what I would do. It would be very difficult to wrangle a big name head coach away from an established program right now as bowl games have already started. Wisconsin is the type of program that should be able to lure a big name coach away, such as Arkansas did, but right now is difficult. I don't see a situation like Michigan two years ago where a high profile former assistant who dreams of the job every night is ripe for the picking. I would pull a West Virginia, minus the former head coach hiring a journalist. That is, hire a high profile assistant who has head coach written all over him. As Globe said, Bob Diaco, or I'd offer Pat Narduzzi, Tom Herman, Brent Venables, and Bud Foster as suggestions. Alvarez is the head coach next year, that coordinator serves as a coordinator and coach-in-waiting and then takes over next year. Worked pretty well once the transition happened for WVU. But I'm not Alvarez and nobody but him knows his next move. Regardless, I'm very impressed and always have been with Alvarez and the program he runs.
