We're now 64 points from 20,000 scored all-time. I'm starting to think we get it vs. OU. Two teams moving rapidly in opposite directions.Falconfreak90 wrote:They're gonna think the 49-0 game two years ago was close....GO FALCONS.Falcon137 wrote:Buffalo -28

But didnt stop himfrom " re- writing his stance that AU still " has a chance" to win East, again because of our togher end of seasonsched. Compared to Akron. Of course, if they lose to CMU next game, it should be amoot question....finally. ( though he thinks they could go 4-1 or 5-0 and win the Div. ](/img/ayziggyzoomba/58/58/54314911ff35ed959956620e68458f73.gif)

He's helplessly biased against BG but does have a point about scheduling playing a role in team success.
Toledo is a talented team but would not be receiving a fraction of the positive press they're getting if not for their ranking, and they wouldn't have the ranking if not for the schedule.
Forget G5 playoff positioning; how about the weeks of fawning puff pieces and media infatuation an inflated ranking underpinned by an easier schedule has garnered? Their AD has it figured out. For our sake it only seems to be adding more motivation for Johnson and the seniors.

Arkansas better than Tennessee, Iowa State is probably better than Maryland and Purdue, but it's close. And when the Memphis games were scheduled Arkansas State was equal to or better than Memphis.
If BG would have closed out Memphis, they would be in as good or better shape than anyone to get into the access bowl and would be in the top 25. They didn't. It had nothing to do with scheduling.
Re: CPD says winner of Ohio/Akron will be MAC East Champ
I sure as heck won't give it a rest when the way the season has played out perfectly illustrates the point. Saying BG and Toledo had equal schedules in 2015 reflects a weird strain of UT Stockholm Syndrome that afflicts a fan base that has lost to them 5 straight times and feels compelled to praise them at every turn.
Iowa State is categorically not better than Maryland or Purdue and we played both of them on the road while they got ISU at home. Arkansas may be slightly better than Tennessee, but Toledo had an FCS half-game home game warm-up before the matchup to prepare them whereas BG took on the Vols right out of the gate. Memphis is a Top 25 team led by an NFL QB and might score 80 against Arkansas State.
Toledo is a great team and so is BG. One is undefeated and ranked at least in part due to an easier schedule and one is not.

Toledo's wins look less impressive as the season goes on. All the Arkansas hype was punctured early in the season and they've had yet another disappointing season. Iowa State has always been a mediocre program outside of when Seneca Wallace was there, and as you mentioned Toledo was home.mscarn wrote:I sure as heck won't give it a rest when the way the season has played out perfectly illustrates the point. I mentioned it before but the Memphis game has earned BG a lot of credibility this season for that close loss. IMO, it may have been a blessing as the team has rattled off five straight since then and have improved drastically on both sides of the ball. Tennessee has ended up having a disappointing year, but a young defense opening the season against them was sure to be recipe for disaster. The team has matured and grown leaps and bounds since that first game.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

Great points. If UT thinks they're better than BG based on their ranking it could give them a false sense of confidence. BG is a hungry, motivated team getting better by the week.jpfalcon09 wrote:Toledo's wins look less impressive as the season goes on. I'm done with the scheduling thing. You think BG shafted itself most people think they made lemonade when handed lemons.
Bottom line. This is one of, if not the best BG teams in the past 25 years. The opening game whether it was losing to Tennessee or beating a FCS school changes nothing in the grand scheme of things after the loss to Memphis. I think this team grew by leaps and bounds because they played Tennessee.
In the Group of 5, if you want to be ranked and have attention before week 9 you better be undefeated. Marshall and App State are proof of that. Appalachain State has 1 loss, Clemson (maybe the best team in the country) and has crushed everyone else and has gotten less press than BG.

Mscarn, your never ending what if this would have been scheduled then this would have happened is stupid and pointless.
So we play an FCS team in week 1. Why are you so sure we make the leap to 4-0? No guarantee we beat Maryland or Purdue. Maryland led at halftime. Purdue went to the final minute. No guarantee Memphis is a win obviously . You can play the what if game to make whatever argument you want. Maybe we would've went 1-3. It doesn't matter.
Personally I think the Tennessee game gave the offense confidence that they can play with anyone, but that too is just opinion.
We played Tennessee. Lost. Get over it. You likely won't. It took an all out homering by the officials to make that game a blowout. I was there, Tennessee couldn't cover our receivers so they mugged them all game and got away with it. Oh well I moved on long ago and the team did too.
You obviously hate Toledo. No problem there. BG gets to knock them down to earth in a few weeks.

I agree with that and the whole non conference schedule. This was a very challenging non Conf schedule and we were a play or two away from 3-1. All the road games we've played this year. BG has THEE warrior mentality and getting hungrier each game. FOCUSED. Beautiful.Schadenfreude wrote:+1Falcon137 wrote:I think this team grew by leaps and bounds because they played Tennessee.

Re: CPD says winner of Ohio/Akron will be MAC East Champ
I said it at the start of MAC play and I'll say it again. The winner of the BG-OU game will win the East. BG enters the game in first place and Ohio comes enters in second. If BG wins this game (barring a late-season collapse) it'll all but lock up the East with one win verses the three MAC West teams left. If OU wins this game it pulls a game behind BG and would own the tie-breaker and put big pressure on BG to stay ahead in the standings with a though three games remaining.

We're like a 1,000,000 and 0 against the east the last few years....you could say the winner of the BG/whomever game will win the east because we're going to be the winners....
Although I think the final standings will show UB in 2nd place, meaning the winner of the BG/UB game will actually have been more important in determining the winner of the east.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: CPD says winner of Ohio/Akron will be MAC East Champ
It matters because that easily, easily could have been BG getting all the attention an undefeated stretch and ranking has generated for UT. A sure-fire guarantee? O course not, but the odds would have been significantly improved with an FCS warm-up like Toledo had prior to our Memphis game, 3 home games instead of one and 2 P5 teams instead of 3.kdog27 wrote: It doesn't matter.
