So now we're faced with deciding what to do about SL...Do you extend him or cut bait

Miami did last year as well. BG got their butts kicked today.TerrenceJesus8 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 2:59 pm Hell of a job by Miami. Basically nobody has been able to shut Fannin down like this

He’s getting an extension. I don’t think there will be any debate within the department.

This was NIU redux. Beaten up in the trenches. I'd imagine Loeffler is extended but next year is going to be tough regardless with the amount of players leaving the program.

Well, that's too bad. I guess they're happy with mediocre results. Make no mistake, SL is not a championship coach.

The good old boys are convinced he is a good coach. Maybe today changed that opinion. I doubt it. We need a Holy Cross folks. No actual BGSU leadership is moving off of him, that is for certain.
Re: vs. Miami (11/29)
Simply not good enough today
I've said it a few times over the years but my biggest fear was Loeffler's ceiling was 8-4 (6-2) and it still is

Definitely feels like next year is a transition/down year given all the turnover on the way, so not winning this year really sucks. So close but yet so far.

Loeffler is a tough one. The program is objectively in a better place than it was after Jinks was fired, but he hasn't been able to get over the hump. On the other side, I'm not sure if there is a Dave Clawson, Urban Meyer type guy around that will go to BG nowadays. I'm not convinced going out and grabbing the flashy young HC that may win a title and ditch in 2 years is better long term than the Chuck Martin/Frank Solich model (which seems to be what BG is going for with Loeffler). With the portal and how many guys are leaving, letting Scot go and half the team transferring out could easily make this a 2 win football team next year. I'm not even sure BG has the money to grab a good HC prospect anymore, Sean Lewis choosing to go be an OC at Colorado was very telling imo

And SL is showing Sabanesque signs of getting tired of the portal and NIL. He might bolt to go back to the league or who knows...an OC gig might open with a school with an actual budget

Have to imagine at the G5 level it's even more exhausting. BG and Miami were rare this year in they have a lot of homegrown talent as impact players.
There's a lot of work to be done next year. The WR depth is very thin. Losing a lot on defense. Obviously Fannin isn't returning. QB loses Bazelak and Orth as he's not seeking a medical redshirt. If he's extended it'll be an interesting and quite busy offseason.

Re: vs. Miami (11/29)
This is another 7-6 season because as I have said before I’m going assume a bowl loss based on the last 20 years of history. So 6-7, 7-6 and 7-6. Treading water now, and unless there are some great additions in the portal I doubt highly they win 6 conference games next year.
I have seen enough to know we have seen his ceiling but the path of least resistance for the athletic department is to extend him so that’s what they will do.
