My only thought is one year has to be a medical redshirt. Be happy once we're out of the covid player pool. Guys sticking around college for 6 & 7 years is ridiculous.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:07 pmVery confusing background
It looks like he played 3 snaps for Rice in 2020 Covid year
Then 2 years for Rice in 2021 (587) and 2022 (651 snaps)
Redshirted at Rice in 2023
He transferred to Kansas State for 2024 and played 66 snaps over 2 games.
He redshirted after starting for 2 years?
How he would still have 2 years of eligibility is beyond me. 1 covid years, 2 redshirt years?

That's my bad. Rhys Patrykus originally reported 2 years remaining, and I went off of that with what I typed here. He corrected himself underneath his original tweet 1 minute later, but I didn't see that before I posted. Hand up, that's on me.BillyLP wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:43 amHe only has one year of eligibility left.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:13 amMy only thought is one year has to be a medical redshirt. Tavian Combs took an official visit this week according to his X account. Noted above, he is a defensive back from New Mexico.
Additionally, BG offered LB Cole Kozlowski from Colgate.
Wollschlaeger picked up offers from Nebraska, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and doing a visit today to Indiana.

Am I the only one that doesn't actually care about how many total years of eligibility kids get/use?jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:13 amMy only thought is one year has to be a medical redshirt. In fact, I think if I really wanted to I could lay out a case that a lot of the issues with college football could be resolved by doing away with any restriction on total years. If somebody wants to stay a college student and play college football, why do I care if they're 26? It would almost certainly make the MAC (and similar) product far better and more competitive. The blue bloods will always lose their top players to the NFL, but it would be very interesting to see how things shook up if the 25 year olds not quite good enough for a pro football career were allowed to keep playing college ball.

I have never thought about it but why not at this point? Someone will probably sue about it and win.hammb wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:30 pmAm I the only one that doesn't actually care about how many total years of eligibility kids get/use?jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:13 amMy only thought is one year has to be a medical redshirt. Add to that....why lose eligibility? What if lets say Drew Lock decides he wants to go back and play in college....and can make more than the NFL. Why not?

I see your point, but I disagree. I love the process and promise of the young kids getting their shot. I may be in the minority, but I still like the idea that young men can change their lives forever with a free college degree.hammb wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:30 pm

Re: Transfer Portal 2024-25
Stewart, Sipp and Wollschlaeger are going to hurt. That makes 11 guys into the portal from BG so far, and you know more are coming. Right now, Ohio is the only team in entire FBS to not have a single portal entry. Not a single one. They're not just the only team from the MAC without portal entries, they're the only FBS team out of the 134 in the entire nation currently without a single one. And - the Bobcats lost their head coach. You want to see what the DNA makeup of a true conference champion looks like. Look no further than OU. You hear every program talk about commitment and culture. Yet, right now all of them but one have guys walking out the door, or touring other schools, shopping for another destination, etc., before the season is even over. You want to talk about a TEAM that's committed to one another - in an era where guys (and coaches) are all about doing what's best for themselves - then look no further than what's going on in Athens. They won the conference championship, their coach already left, they're not going to a glamorous bowl - all reasons why guys could have jumped in the portal. And yet, no one has. They've stuck together. Now that is a TEAM - and a championship one to boot. I'm guessing they'll have a few guys enter after the season is finally over following the bowl. But what they're doing right now is unheard of in college football. Hence, the fact they're the only ones doing it.

1. Obviously, Ohio is going to have guys transfer after they figure out a coaching hire. Just like they lost a gazillion guys last year.BGSU33 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 3:53 pm Stewart, Sipp and Wollschlaeger are going to hurt. 2. I’ve crossed over from defending your right to have weird Ohio opinions on here to now thinking this is actually an incredibly funny bit, and there’s no way a real person actually thinks this way.

No. Now that we've gone down that road of basically turning college football into the minor league pro football, why not?hammb wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:30 pmAm I the only one that doesn't actually care about how many total years of eligibility kids get/use?jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:13 amMy only thought is one year has to be a medical redshirt.
