Why would a 17 year-old put a muffler on a Honda Civic in an attempt to make it sound like he's driving a '69 GTO? 17 year olds do odd things Germain...
In this case they aren't looking at a hole in the ground, they're looking at a hole in the ground and some pretty pictures and they're hearing a great story about a football program on the rise.
I like pretty pictures and so do those recruits.

GO BG!!!
Its a crap shoot, some recruits are looking for the facilities and some it doesn't matter. Corey visited Iowa and Northwestern, they had great facilities but Corey thought those schools were impersonable. BG was attractive because of the atmosphere. It matters to some but not all.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Germainfitch1 wrote:Do you really think a 17-18 year old comes on BGs campus and sees a drawing of a building and makes his decision based off what a potential building might be in a year and a half?
Absolutely. It's not the end all be all for recruits, but don't kid yourself -- it plays a large role.
Of course I also think the higher profile a recruit is then the more the facilities may matter. A chance to get on the field earlier and the style of offense and defense plays a role too, but less than the other factors.

Facilities matter. I believe it plays more on a recruit's subconscience than anything else.
A recruit will never say, "I came here for the facilities." That's like buying a house solely based on the looks of the front door.
Facilities can be deal breakers or deal makers in my mind.

At the risk of getting flamed for discussing myself, here it goes...
When I was being recruited for football coming out of high school (mostly NCAA 1-AA and II and NAIA), I remember caring more than a little about facilities. For example, I wouldn't consider schools that had turf (back then, the turf was still pretty rough). Also, I didn't pursue a full-ride from one school in part because its stadium was very small and its weight room looked like crap (of course, the fact that the academics were weak played an even larger role in that decision). And, the school I did choose had a fairly big and interesting stadium, a brand new weight room, and a pretty locker room. I was more "academically-minded" than most D-1A football recruits and I wasn't going to choose a school just because of its facilities, but the facilities mattered.

You weren't recruited by Div 1A so it just shows that you don't know [expletive].BGSUfalcons wrote:At the risk of getting flamed for discussing myself, here it goes...

Well we blindfolded him, took him down to Anderson Arena for a BG basketball game, took off the blindfold, and told him we were watching a game in our basketball arena.Godsgirlerific wrote:Too easy... just... way too easy...Tricky_Falcon wrote:I saw that he picked toledo because the campus reminded him of his high school.

Well, I was recruited by some schools that were making the transition to 1-A. So, maybe I know half-[expletive]. Remember, 1-AA is for football only. Therefore, some of these campuses had top-notch facilities since the other sports were D-1.Rightupinthere wrote:You weren't recruited by Div 1A so it just shows that you don't know [expletive].BGSUfalcons wrote:At the risk of getting flamed for discussing myself, here it goes...

While I think the Sebo Center will provide an excellent training facilitie for athletes the reason it would pull in recruits is because it makes the Doyt more of a big time stadium rather than a big highschool one. IMO recruits want to play in cool looking stadiums that are loud. The fact that the Sebo Center is going to provide a better atmosphere during games for future players is what is going to bring them here, not necessarily the better training facilities. Frankly you could really build anything in the endzone to permanently enclose the field and it would pull in players that want to play in a stadium not on just a field. To make a long story short, facilities do matter, especially those connected to the stadium.

I know. I just wanted to point out that the facilities I was looking at were comparable, and sometimes better, than BGSU's.Schadenfreude wrote:I think he was kiddin' around.BGSUfalcons wrote:Well, I was recruited by some schools that were making the transition to 1-A.
