How is this for evidence of wrong direction:
2003: 11-3 (7-1)
2004: 9-3 (6-2)
2005: 6-5 (5-3)
2006: 4-4 (3-2) [my projection:6-6, 4-4]
Getting worse every year. We didn't need to rebuild. Urban rebuilt this program six years ago and Brandon has let it crumple a little bit more each year.

The product on the field has taken a signficant step back year after year in the Gregg Brandon tenure. It's frustrated the hell out of me to see it happen, but that's been my observation for quite some time. I kept hearing how things were okay because we were winning, but I disagreed. Now I hear that things are okay because we are young and we used to win. At some point things are not okay.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Even more than records, all you have to do is take off the orange goggles and look at the product on the field. There have been flashes this year, but overall, Brandon still turned a very good football team into a bad football team.
The conference as a whole is not nearly as strong as it was when Brandon became HC. Yet still we have lost ground to the rest of the conference. That, is why I say we're on a steady period of decline.
The only improvements made this season have been on defense. Fundamentals are certainly better.
We have the worst special teams in all of division 1 football and I include 1-aa in that. We cannot kick a 25 yard field goal. Our kickoff returns make it past the 20 about 1/5 times. We give up a kickoff return past the 50 almost every game. Punts have been much better but we still saw a 9 yard shank last night. I have not seen much in punt returns either. Special teams costs us at least 7 points every week.
Offense. Well lets just say I was more entertained when Godfry Lewis was running up the middle 20 times a game.

This remains to be seen. If we win out and go 8-4, then we really didn't get worse this year now did we? I wonder which two of our final three conference teams (akron, miami, toledo) you think we will lose to. I think Akron is probably the toughest game of the three, but all three are games we probably should win, especially Miami and Toledo.Warthog wrote:How is this for evidence of wrong direction:

With the records, the big key in my mind is the 07 season, where we have everybody back except for Parks, Mackray, White, and Brantley. That's a season where we should be thinking about an undefeated MAC season and a MAC Championship, and anything less than an East division title would be a huge disappointment. Maybe if there's no improvement next year (which it seems a lot of you are predicting for some reason) then we should kick Brandon out. But I doubt that.
Well the truth is this team can lose any game. We barely beat Buffalo, EMU, and FIU. Three of the worst teams in the country we took to the last minute.bgsufalcon24 wrote:This remains to be seen. Miami and Toldeo are rivalry games. We can lose those games no matter how good we are and how bad they are. I'm also not convinced that we are all that much better then them. 3 of our 4 wins this season are crap.
We could potentially lose all three of those!bgsufalcon24 wrote:This remains to be seen. If we win out and go 8-4, then we really didn't get worse this year now did we? Is Akron a better team than us? Probably.
Is Miami? Probably not but they are coming into our house in a mid-week game with a chip on their shoulder since we beat them at their place last year. And you know how we've played at home.
Is Toledo? No, but it's a rivalry game, and it might be a cliche, but throw out the records when you play this game. It's a mid-week TV road game, which we haven't been all that successful at.
Do I believe we lose all three games? Probably not... but I'm just saying that there is reason for doubt on the rest of our season. I see a definite slide since GB took over, and although I like the guy, I just don't think he's all that great of a HC. He doesn't prepare his teams properly, and makes boneheaded coaching decisions during the game. I'm tending to agree with hammb on this one.
If he wins out, I won't be a bandwagoner (sp?) but it would do a lot to "redeem" GB in my eyes. But what am I except "one of those internet guys!"

We'll all feel better, but left scratching our heads regarding how good we are given that 6 of those wins would have come against teams arguably among the worst 10-15 teams in DI-A.If we win out and go 8-4, then we really didn't get worse this year now did we?
Thank God for the MAC!

If we lose all three of those games, I'll eat a bug. Somebody better find a nice, big juicy one...bgsufn wrote:We could potentially lose all three of those!bgsufalcon24 wrote:This remains to be seen. And San Diego Falcon, I agree with the winning over bad teams, but hey, that's what we are supposed to do. If we can't beat the bad teams, it doesn't matter if we beat the good ones now does it?
