Attendance Woes
Re: Attendance Woes
Could they do it once, yeah possibly if tickets were ten bucks. Consistently, not a freakin chance. This couldn't even happen in the football crazed state I live in.
Re: Attendance Woes
zete, with all due respect, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They didn't even sell out every game last year, and had seats available for Florida A&M up until the day of the game.
What I do agree with is the impact that OSU has on our attendance. The best thing that could happen for BG attendance would be for Ohio State to have a couple mediocre years at the same time as Bowling Green having winning seasons. After the Walmart alumni quit calling for the coach to be hung in the gallows, they would start rooting for the closest winning team to them. Personally, being someone who worked in collegiate athletics for a few years, the best thing to do to get people to come out is win consistently. Are we going to average 23k a game? Nope, not unless we go 12-0 during a 6-6 year at Ohio State, but it is absolutely possible to draw 18-19k a game in a market like Bowling Green.
In the meantime, I'll be rooting for BGSU every week and pulling for the two teams that play Toledo and Ohio State. That feeling was especially solidified yesterday when an Ohio State fan spit on my car in the middle of Chicago because I playfully gave him a thumbs down when he said Go Bucks.

I hope you kicked him square in the buckeyes. Time to see them brought down a notch tonight in Evanston.

Zete, if you wanna get a stiff one for osu, do it somewhere else. Bucknuts.com is a good place for that.

Just stating what I have seen happen in the community of BG over the years: a slow migration of Bg supports heading away from the stadium and into their livingrooms to watch OSU or another GameDay game. Thus my statement in another post. Sorry I wasn't clearer. The hyperbole with regard to putting a half million in their stadium was stated to make a point.

We play Ohio State in 2017. I'm seriously concerned that we'll have more students here rooting for Ohio State than BG.

Was the game changed from 2016? At least, I thought that's when we were to play them.jakehovs23 wrote:We play Ohio State in 2017. I'm seriously concerned that we'll have more students here rooting for Ohio State than BG.
As to our "standings" in the attendance wars of the MAC, just for your info. KSU drew 18773 for THEIR Homecoming game vs. N.Ill. (Yeah, it's a bigger draw than U.Mass- who incidentally seemed to have over a hundred or so at our game).... Akron, on the other hand, drew 19,775 yesterday vs. OU.... another "better" draw. WE drew supposedly 13 K + for our Homecoming game.... so our attendance this year has basically been 18, 16, 13, 13K for our first four home games.... this for a 5-1 team, not an Akron, or even a KSU (which probably benefitted from last yrs. success). Haven't checked out the other MAC game attendance yet, 13K for HOMECOMING? Pathetic!!!
And we hope to retain successful coaches with this kind of support???

Re: Attendance Woes
Time to get the propaganda wagon rolling. BG students who root for OSU are not respected by OSU alums and students. They find anybody outside their kingdom of degree holders to be lesser and if you hang around them long enough they will let you know. Our students need to hear this because they get fooled into believing they are part of Buckeye nation when they actually are simply being used to further the Columbus cause. Buy all the t-shirts you want and be a lamb but you still aren't good enough to have one of their sheep skins or an opinion.
One way you can accomplish this by getting non-degreed fans to discuss coaching changes needed in Columbus in front of those prestigious degree holders. Watch them point out who should make those decisions - it stuns the non-degree folks for a second but they are so brain-washed you will have to point it out to them several times before they understand they are second class fans.
The best way to get BG loyalty is to beat some Big10 schools (preferably the biggest one in state).

Ohio state T shirt alumni greatly outnumber the actual alumni so they have plenty of other dopes to associate with.

Re: Attendance Woes
I have not been to a Football game at BG since Gameday came.
I don't have a person I graduated with that I was friends with in school who follows them at all.
13K at homecoming is horrendous. Something has to be done to connect students and the community with BG athletics and get alums to come back.

Re: Attendance Woes
My game day experience. Now, I'm a Falcon supporter 100%, but on the day I bring my boss (a OSU grad living in NW Ohio who has fond memories of hanging out in BG), I bring this back from the concession stand. Pretty funny to him, but just sad to me.
The other thing that has to go is the bleachairs veiwed behind my blackened brat. After five years as a season ticket holder fighting with these damned things I have to say, I'm done with them. They need to go. I can't see how they've done one bit of good. Can I get a witness?
Thank you to my boss for taking the photo, and thank you to my great friend Pete for help out of the parking lot mud!

Oh yes, I ate the SOB. I'm not afraid of nothin'. Thank you Andrew Zimmern.

Let's see....YOU haven't been to a BG game since.....2003! And YOU are saying that 13K at homecoming is horrendous? Glad to see that you're helping out with support for your alma mater!!!Globetrotter wrote:I have not been to a Football game at BG since Gameday came.
