Maybe we need to play the Big Ten every week.Falconfreak90 wrote:Trying to remember who it was on this board who said "I will be shocked if we win any of the first 4". Hazell never should've left Kent State. Purdue is a job that gets coaches fired. He should've stuck it out and won at Kent and gotten an actual good job in the P5 which would've come calling quickly if he continued to win at Kent.bgdodgeball4 wrote:$$ talks, I get that. Hazell's move hurt his career personally as well as Kent State's program. I'm just glad that Dave Clawson's move to Wake Forest (another job that gets coaches fired) hasn't been as toxic for Bowling Green

I agree, Hazell had a good thing building at Kent State....Purdue isn't that much better of a job except for the $$$$.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Hazell never should've left Kent State. Per Wagner via twitter...MJ is the first BG QB to have four games in his career of 400+ passing yards. That he's had them consecutively to open a season against a very tough schedule is aazing

Don't count Hazell out just yet..the Tigers are bringing Brad Ausmus back for 2016. If he can survive, anyone can

Guaranteed if we were 4-0 with the schedule we've played and his numbers...he'd be right in the middle of the Heisman discussion.Falconfreak90 wrote:Simply amazing....MJ for Heisman!!Flipper wrote:Per Wagner via twitter...MJ is the first BG QB to have four games in his career of 400+ passing yards. Re: Game Thread: Purdon't
Good win that could have been a much larger margin of victory. Few quick thoughts ...
-2-2, a play from 3-1. Damn impressive.
-And no major injuries. But a bye week sure would be nice.
-Purdue showed the blueprint for beating BG. Easy strategy - long drives, chew up time of possession. I've seen a lot of things in football but I've never seen a QB throw a TD while his defense is on the field.
-I get why we go for fourth down all the time - Coach B wants to keep the heat on the opponent - but I don't agree with it. There is a place for taking 3 when you can and playing field position when outside of field goal range.
-Purdue has a lot of potential. As a Purdue alum I always liked the hire of Darrell Hazell and I still believe he can do big things there. They just haven't recruited well enough and that has to change fast. Their young QB looked good, lots of potential in him. He should start from here on.
-BG offense was a bit disappointing at times today compared to what we've seen at times this year but damn is this a nice offensive turnaround from much of the last few years! Imagine a few years ago putting up 5 TDs and a win against a Big Ten team and being a bit disappointed.
-BG front seven at times dominated today. Once we rushed just four and against that good O line we got a sack.
-Back seven is still a work in progress. Considering how much talent is freshmen and sophomores all over the defense, we could be building toward the 2012-13 defense again.
-If Matt Johnson is not a Heisman and Manning finalist at the end of the year, boycott ESPN for their blatant disrespect for the MAC.
-Big Ten teams might want to quit scheduling us. 75% winning percentage in the last two years is better than most Big Ten teams. We all remember Michigan backing out of a game against us a few years ago. Gotta wonder if ol Gene Smith at Ohio State is nervous about his home opener next year.
-8 conference games to go. 4 crucial home conference games. Win those four and the rest will take care if itself.
-Go BG! Easily the most impressive MAC team so far this year!

Re: Game Thread: Purdon't
I bolded this comment because honestly, this is getting totally ridiculous. I get going for it on 4th down when you're playing a superior opponent (like the 4th down play deep in your own territory vs TN) and I fully get that Memphis used a fake punt at a key point in our game last week that really helped them. But come on. You have 4th and 2 at the 6 yard line in a tied game in the 4th quarter and you're not kicking the field goal to take the lead? Even in a half where outside of one busted coverage your defense has looked pretty good? That IMO was an awful decision and very nearly a game costing decision. We got very lucky that Purdue self-destructed with penalties and that their kicker is absolutely abysmal.MarkL wrote:Good win that could have been a much larger margin of victory. Actually, that's another point. Memphis's kicker hit a 52yd FG last week, and Purdue's kicker missed 19yd and 33yd kicks today. Not really hard to figure why today was a close win and last week a close loss.

Agree..going for it on 4th down at the 6 was almost criminally stupid

Re: Game Thread: Purdon't
Has he lost all faith in Tate after the last 2 weeks?
I believe we'll see some benefits from these first four games. No Maryland and Purdue aren't the best power 5 teams but they still recruit better athletes than any MAC team IMO so I'm happy with getting those 2 wins.
Time to move on, get better, beat Toledo and win the East.

I want to see Tate drill kicks again. He's the most talented kicker we've had in years. Whatever the reason for the misses, I hope it is resolved because nothing would be sweeter than to see a senior kicker drill a game winning FG.

I've thought a lot about that, but unless Johnson somehow gets another year or Morgan is the real deal, I think we're two years away.MarkL wrote:Good win that could have been a much larger margin of victory. Few quick thoughts ...

He was 5 for 5 on XP kicks today and had 5 touchbacks on 6 ko's. I, too, want to see him hitting FG's again. Up until 2 weeks ago, he was Money. He'll be back.MarkL wrote:I want to see Tate drill kicks again. He's the most talented kicker we've had in years. Didn't see the game and haven't rewatched it, but kicking a FG when you're inside the 10 yard line is one of my "NEVER DO THIS" moments that goes against standard football strategy. I'd rather go for it 99% of the time and if you get stopped the opponent is still backed all the way down and has to go 90+ yards.Flipper wrote:Agree..going for it on 4th down at the 6 was almost criminally stupid
That said, it's possible that taking the lead in the 4th quarter might fall into the 1% that I would wanna take the FG.
How late in the game was it?
