Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
I am not sure you would have to start that early... a start first week of March could give an eight game season.. perhaps one non conference game... maybe even a bowl game in May and still have two months off before next season. Perhaps what is left of ncaa could back up next season by a couple of weeks... yes, I know games are scheduled years in advance
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
The chances of actually playing Spring football are less than 50%. Very likely still no fans. Basketball & hockey are very likely done for this year. Let’s all just start saying it so we don’t have to act surprised. It’s going to be a very expensive year of practice.
Will BGSU still charge students general fees for admission to athletic events they can’t attend?

I think this is a really important question for schools that fund a portion of athletics through student fees. If I had to guess, they will still take the general fees to support athletics, and cut some of the other maintenance fees that are built in. I'm not saying I'd agree with that, it's just a guess. D-1 schools place a massive value on the marketing provided by athletics and they will want to keep their coaches paid and facilities up-to-date.guest44 wrote:Will BGSU still charge students general fees for admission to athletic events they can’t attend?

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I agree that is what they will do however, I think legally doing that would be tough to defend if challenged. Then again, BGSU totally cooked the Athletics budget for next year already and funds will be coming from Recreation & Wellness next to try to support athletics. That’s just a matter of time in the new structure.

As much as this is detrimental to MAC schools... this will be devasting to BIG 10 schools, SEC, ect. Football programs run at a deficit for MAC schools, however, for more robust programs, this football money is used to fund a fatter pig. Without this money, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State are going to be hurting much more than us...

IIRC....Michigan stands to lose something like 56.5 million
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Many of those schools have extensive athletics programs with a lot of different teams. If their budgets take a hit like this, it won't be surprising to see a lot of sports eliminated in the following years...and bet the house it will be mostly men's sports because of Title IX.Falco_peregrinusana wrote:As much as this is detrimental to MAC schools... this will be devasting to BIG 10 schools, SEC, ect. Stanford, pretty much the gold standard in NCAA sports championships and creating Olympians cutting 11 sports isn’t a good sign for the rest.

I don't know how realistic it would be to have basically 2 full seasons in the same calendar year, but if a 'spring' season is possible, I would definitely be open to the idea of starting in January & playing at indoor venues. If the season started in January, you could build in a bye week or two & wrap up by late March, with bowl games in early April. I'm definitely no expert, so I don't know if that would help facilitate rest, rehab & recovery in time for a 'normal' season in the fall, but there would be a chance for 3-4 months off instead of 2.Falco_peregrinusana wrote:I am not sure you would have to start that early... a start first week of March could give an eight game season.. perhaps one non conference game... maybe even a bowl game in May and still have two months off before next season. Thanks, Buddy! It sounds like we have two things in common. We each think the other is batsh!t crazy, & we have a shared love of BGSU football.roguewarrior wrote:threestooges wrote:I'm sorry this has happened to you.roguewarrior wrote:How can we play football when the bodies are piling up and are lining our streets!!? The Virus is rampant here.... communist countries like North Korea and China actually care for their people, and the virus barely exists there. They did it right with genius insight and supreme technology, and caring hands. I think we need to wear masks and remain shut down for at least two more years, until every child is safe. It’s all about the kids.
Several conferences still haven't cancelled their season. Maybe one of them needs a backup WR & part-time PR, and you can drive your kid around the piles of dead bodies in your streets to one of those schools & he can play immediately. I'll sign the transfer form if it helps.
Wow. What a freak.
Actually, we have THREE things in common, because we both want BGSU football to play. We just have different ideas about how & when that third thing should happen. Have a good one!

If Alums at BG are going to step up to pay for Baseball they certainly will do it at OSU etc.Falconwriter wrote:Many of those schools have extensive athletics programs with a lot of different teams. Possibly. But those minor sports do not have anywhere near as many passionate backers as football and basketball. The one exception I know of is baseball at OSU, where the Bill Davis family helped completely renovate their baseball field. Remember, Ohio State fields 37 different teams, most in the country now that Stanford has cut back.Globetrotter wrote:If Alums at BG are going to step up to pay for Baseball they certainly will do it at OSU etc.Falconwriter wrote:Many of those schools have extensive athletics programs with a lot of different teams. For some institutions...cutting sports will be the least of their worries...

This is definitely a thing to keep an eye on. I don't know if it will happen so much at D-1 schools, but I think we're going to see a pretty unprecedented number of colleges and universities closing their doors for good if things aren't back to normal by the spring. How we get back to normal is unfortunately going to be a never ending divide (as clearly shown on this board) that I think will prevent it from happening any time soon.Flipper wrote:For some institutions...cutting sports will be the least of their worries...
