Insider.com blurb about Omar...
Missouri's Brad Smith
Just curious as to the where the experts are projecting a guy who visited the Doyt a few years ago, Brad Smith. After his sophomore year there was a lot of buzz about him but after a couple subpar years you don't hear his name mentioned much anymore. A poor man's Vince Young, or is that giving him too much credit?
Re: Missouri's Brad Smith
I don't think he's thought too highly of anymore as a prospect. Scout.com has him as their #28 QB, although there are a number of Juniors that will not declare ahead of him. I think in the end you'll see Brad as a late draft pick or UDFA, but most likely his opportunity will come as an athlete (KR/RB/WR/PR) as opposed to QB.doughash wrote:Just curious as to the where the experts are projecting a guy who visited the Doyt a few years ago, Brad Smith. Welcome to A-Z-Z.com DrDesert. We all know the big negative to Jacobs has been his "dart" motion. I would point you towards a QB named Bernie Kosar for that.
I will agree with you to a point Omar has strived in this offense. But, only throwing 11 INTs in 2 years of starting is unheard of. He makes the smart decision, and is very conservative with his decisions. Some have pointed out his completion percentage is slightly low, but Jacobs is known for throwing souvenirs when he needs to rather than throwing it into trouble.

I hope he doesn't leave early, but I have a feeling he's going to. The guesses are going to keep adding up for him staying or going, but until he announces himself what he's planning on doing, we're all left hanging.DrDesert wrote:Do you really think Omar will declare for the NFL draft? I think he's a great QB, but NFL scouts are going to be leary of his side arm delivery. I think this year's injury and the style of BG's offense (which I love) will not help him in his efforts to turn pro.

January 1st deadline?
I heard Omar wants to make his decision by Jan. 1st. Anyone know if that is still the case? I think we all agree he should wait to see what Quinn and Young do and both of their bowl games are after Jan. 1st, so they won't be making any decisons till after their games. In my own throwing out there opinon, it's 60/40 he leaves.

Did I not say "moving into that range"? Was he in that range 2 or 3 weeks ago? Probably not. Is he on the rise? He most certainly is . Darrell Hackney is another one that is on the rise, and is more highly thought of now than 2 weeks ago. I don't see Hackney being taken in front of Omar anyways at 6'1, but Cutler has the size that scouts are looking for. Right now the line between Cutler and Omar is cloudy. One could easily go ahead of the other, but the way things are now, they're on the same tier. It's all a matter of preference, as it usually is in the NFL. Cutler will certainly have the advantage of playing in the Senior Bowl, but if he did go ahead of Omar, Omar would be the next QB off the board. And if all Omar needs is assurances that he would go in the first 2 rounds, you might as well pack his bags for him and thank him for the memories.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Didn't you tell me a couple weeks ago I was nuts if I thought Cutler would go ahead of Omar?Im_Full wrote:Not for nothing, but he can't be much of a draftnik if he thinks Leinart is the only senior QB worthy of starting. Jay Cutler is moving into that range and could very well be a top 15 pick when all is said and done. Darrell Hackney is also on the rise. The Senior Bowl will be televised. Watch them all.1987alum wrote:I don't proclaim to be half the draftnik that hammb is, but he certainly seems spot on to me. I haven't heard much buzz about the QBs in this draft. Like he said, you hear about Leinart and Young, but it's not like the Elway/Marino class.
Hammb: Two question for you based on this ...
1) I suspect the lack of QB depth in this draft would have Omar leaning toward declaring. I know it's speculative, but does the 2007 class look deeper?
2) Where do you see the depth in this year's draft? I'm hearing a lot about RBs & LBs.
On Brad Smith, he's accepted an invite to the Hula Bowl, and is open to playing different positions there, so that will likely determine his fate.
outta here....
Thanks for the welcome BGDrew.....I agree with you and think Omar's stats and ability are awesome. I just think that many pro scouts, in whatever sport, only look at the stop watch, ball speed, size of the player, etc. and don't examine the fact that a guy can flat out play or that he's a proven winner. I'm also being a little selfish, hoping that Omar stays another year and has the chance to shred the Ohio State defense like he did Wisonsin's.
