And this just shows your ignorance. Yes,
he should care, but so should
you, because if doesn't do well in history, math, biology, etc., he doesn't have the chance to play.
Your comments are further proof of my theory that 80% of OSU fans think of Buckeye football as a professional franchise. And that, no matter what you say my friend, is bad for collegiate athletics.
I don't think it's professional... quite the contrary. I just don't get all glassy eyed at this outdated heroic concept of the Student Athlete. Furthermore, I'm more than willing to allow a kid to make his own decisions about his own life... if Troy Smith doesn't make the grade, that's his problem, not mine. Sorry if that sounds callous, but I still haven't heard any one of you people say that you sit around rooting for high test scores.
Anyway, the point is this, some of you seem to "poo poo" the fact that Ohio State is a "football factory" investing huge amounts of money in to athletics, football in particular. And, you're so blinded by the fact that Ohio State also reaps a reward for the investment, that you fail to see the good that comes out of it.
What's his name said something about it all being about money... well, yes.. it is... that's how the world works. Now, if you'd like to have a philosophical discussion about if it SHOULD work that way, I'd agree that it shouldn't. But, the reality is, money is how these schools operate.. And some schools took the risk on College football.. some other schools took the risk on HIGH acedemics (ie Harvard) You fault one, and champion the other, and it's absurd. Because Ohio State - owing to the success and popularity of the football program - offers more opportunity to HS kids who might not otherwise go to school... I don't know .... it seems to me you're looking for a reason to hate OSU, and this particular one doesn't work.
I graduated from OSU in 1995. I'm proud of my degree and my school. But, at the end of the day, when it comes to football, I just want to see some touchdowns. When my son goes to school, whether it's at OSU or any place else, I'll care about the "Student Athlete" But, I've got far too many other things to worry about than if Antonio Pittman is getting it done in Psychology 122,.
I'll castrate myself with a powersander before I ever root for Michigan.
