I agree that it shouldn't come down to the captians. But I also haven't seen the leadership from the head coach in these situations either. So someone has to step up and say "This is MY team and I don't like this bullshit that is happening to it. You screw up on my team, I won't you gone."jpfalcon09 wrote:It shouldn't really come down to the captains, IMO.Warthog wrote:Flip, In regard to your comments about 'dropping the hammer', I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea if the captains of this team went to the coach and told him we don't want those guys back. Isn't that the kind of leadership we would like to see come from within the team?

What a horrible morning this is...I just found out Keston Cheathem has quit the team.
As for the 3 players busted in the cc scandal....goodbye...nice knowing you. I don't want them back, either.
There is NO way this stuff needs to be forgotten. These kids must be held accountable for their actions on and off the field. That's how it is in the real world for the rest of us.
Sad....'87, that sums it up. Truly sad.
I am still pumped for Pitt and the season and the players working hard for the team. But I want those other 3 gone. Too bad....Geter had star written all over him.
Chris Bullock....I hope he comes out on fire and has the type of year he did as a Freshman. I would think AT has got to move back to RB now.
Sad.

Cheathem doesn't seem to stay anywhere too long. I thought he was going to be an impact player. I am very disappointed in the three players, but they need to go. This is a criminal act.
I am mad like everyone else, and without being too repetitive, we still need to support these kids as they get ready for Pitt. They have busted their tail and have a legit shot at a great season.
It definitely hurts us on the field, because the staff has made it pretty clear that they want a Geter/Ransom type in the backfield for this offense. After Bullock's good freshman year they went out and brought in Geter & a JuCo in Ransom. Both of those guys were ahead of Bullock on the depth chart. That's a pretty clear signal of the type of back that they would like to have for this offense.Flipper wrote:With Ransom being out and Geter being as good as gone (he should be gone) we are seriously lacking speed at the TB spot. Bullock isn't exactly a burner and neither is AT.
This could really hurt us down the line....
Unfortunately, we don't really have one of those types on the team anymore, without Geter. At this point I don't care what it does to the team, that's secondary to getting rid of the bad apples. Sorry Willie, thought you could be good but you f-ed up. No more second chances, as far as I'm concerned this entire team should be put on notice that their (former) teammates have used up all of their mulligans.

I agree Tiz and that's why I'm still pumped for the season. A few bad apples shouldn't ruin it for the guys busting tail to win a title.
Hammb,
I agree. The mulligans are depleted. I certainly hope the rest of the players focus on the things they need to win a title.
50 hours til kickoff....BEAT PITT.

Sadly, to answer your question, here's what Ryan had in his new blog about the topic (which is already outdated if Cheathem has quit the team). At the rate we're going, he'll need to update the list daily. The rate of we're losing players is becoming downright alarming:Jacobs4Heisman wrote:How many players have now either quit or been suspended this offseason? We have to be pushing a quarter of the roster, which contrary to what some think, most definitely does NOT happen at every school. We used to be able to say it doesn't happen here.

More thoughts on an ugly mess
One thing that has gotten overlooked in all of BG’s off field problems is the attrition the program has gone through. These defections are killing the depth and will continue to do so for years. If you’re joining the party late, we’re bringing this up because three players --- Adrian Hodges, Robert Lorenzi and Willie Geter --- have been suspended one game each for their alleged roles in the misuse of a credit card. One-game suspensions seem incredibly light, but I’m guessing that the coaching staff simply wanted to act swiftly and have not yet decided the “true” punishments for the accused.
As I stated in the above paragraph, the attrition is incredible. Let’s take a look at the erosion from the last three recruiting classes.
2008
Everyone is still around; Lorenzi is in limbo.
2007
Gone:
Nate Brown (Academics)
Jerrson Davis (?)
Eric Ransom (Injuries. It’s reasonable to think Ransom is done for good. Talked to him the other day and he was devastated. Feel bad for the guy.)
Anthony Smith (?)
Glen Stanley (Academics)
Mark Wooldridge (?)
Gary Wright (?)
Chris Young (?)
Total- 8
In limbo:
Willie Geter
Adrian Hodges
Total-2
Still ticking:
Kevin Alvarado
Ben Bojicic
Darren Branch
Preston Burrell
Ray Hutson
Nick Iovinelli
Andrew Johnson
Nick Torresso
Sinisa Vrvilo
Total- 9
2006
Gone:
Orlando Barrow (Dismissed)
Zach Charles (Transfer)
Vincent Corner (?)
Michael Culberson-Fehling (?)
Kelvin Davis (Quit)
Sean Ellis (Transfer)
Anthony Glaud (Transfer)
Tarell Lewis (Dismissed)
Alonso Rojas (Transfer)
DJ Young (Quit)
Total- 10
Still ticking:
Derek Brighton
Jahmal Brown
Tyler Donahue
Eugene Fells
Brandon Jackson
Angelo Magnone
P.J. Mahone
Calvin Marshall
Lewis Parks
Tyrone Pronty
Nick Rieke
Jerett Sanderson
Tyler Sheehan
Darius Smith
Carlos Tipton
Total- 15
Few things here.
-Teams are allowed to sign 25 players each year. There are loopholes coaches can go through to sign a few more, but 25 is the standard number. It’s an absolute joke that only 26 players from the 2006 and 2007 classes are still with the program --- and that includes Hodges and Geter who for all intents and purposes are still with the team. 2007 is dangerously close to becoming a wasted recruiting year. BG was coming off of a 4-8 season and this is what it got.
- BG put out a release late last night regarding the recent suspensions. Programs don’t always do this, so I found it sort of interesting. But what really caught my eye was that Greg Christopher even commented. Obviously, the athletic director is pretty upset with the perception of the football program. He said: “We have an outstanding group of young men and women in our nearly 425 student-athletes. At the same time, we take discipline very seriously here at Bowling Green State University, and all of our student-athletes are expected to represent BGSU in a first-class manner.”
Coach Gregg Brandon said: “We are disappointed in the actions of Willie Geter, Adrian Hodges and Robert Lorenzi. This is not what Falcon football represents. It is an honor and a privilege to wear a BGSU football uniform, and we have very high expectations for every member of this team.”
- I’ll reiterate what I said in my last post. I will be SHOCKED if Hodges and Lorenzi indeed only get one-game suspensions. This is serious stuff that warrants a serious penalty. Geter’s role in the scheme, although bad, doesn’t seem as severe. My guess is Hodges is done and maybe Lorenzi too. Geter won’t be dismissed, but that’s just my gut instinct.
- You have to feel bad for the players who are doing things the right way. The captains come to mind. Partridge, Haneline, Curtis, Smith and Fink shouldn’t have to tolerate this nonsense.
- Does Anthony Turner remember the plays at running back? Of course he does. We could see AT return to the backfield for Saturday’s game.
- Some good news. Adrion Graves, formerly of Xavier, has transferred to play basketball at BG. Graves will sit out the upcoming season before gaining eligibility at the start of the 2009-10 season. Read more in today’s Blade.

Josh Dodge is stil around from 2007.
Brighton is hrt, Hodges is gone and Cheate quit. That really puts a hurt on our depth at WR..
So far as TB goes...the true freshman Davis from Ravenna playe some TB in HS. He looked pretty good on film... He could be a guy on the roster who could fill that "speed back" role

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
According to my account (give one or two off), we are now short 15 players with an additional 3 more in limbo that we would/coulda/shoulda had back for this season but aren't for various reasons! It's a blow across the board for us. Here's what I have:
QB Nate Brown - academics
QB Anthony Glaud - transfer
RB Eric Ransom - injured
WR Keston Cheathem - quit
WR Zach Charles - transfer
OL Jarrett Buckosh - ?
DL Jacob Hardwick - dismissed
DL Orlando Barrow - dismissed
DL DJ Young - quit
DL Darren Branch - ?
LB Glen Stanley - academics
LB Jerrson Davis - ?
LB Chris Young - ?
DB Tarell Lewis - dismissed
DB Mark Wooldridge - ?
DB Robert Lorenzi - injured & suspended
RB Willie Geter - suspended
WR Adrian Hodges - suspended

Not really. We still have all of our main weapons, Barnes, Partridge, Parks, Kelly, and Pronty. That's 5 really strong threats, which is better than most teams can say.Flipper wrote: Brighton is hurt, Hodges is gone and Cheate quit. That really puts a hurt on our depth at WR..
I really think a lot of you are overstating Geter's role in this mess. He hasn't even been charged and you all want him gone? Like the blog said, there's no concrete evidence of him using the card or committing a crime, aside from of course not stepping in and telling his teammates to return it or ditch it. I agree that Hodges, and probably Lorenzi should be kicked off, but I think Geter needs to be at least charged criminally before we take an action that severely against him.
My guess is that he'll be in the lineup against Minnesota. The other guys are outta here.

I don't care who actually swiped the card to buy the gas or the Xbox. It appears that all three "men" knew what was going on, no one stopped it, and all three were going to benefit from using the card to purchase the Xbox. To me, Geter is just as guilty as the other two even if he didn't swipe the card and he should be punished in the same manner as the other two - immediate dismissal from the BGSU football team.

One of the things disheartening to me about this offseason mess is, this is going on for a team picked to win its division and primed for a championship run. We are coming off the heels of a good season, off a year that we made a bowl game again, and off a season where we return a solid core of players, and this is the kind of offseason we’re having? Is this the kind of stuff that is happening at up at Central Michigan? To me, it’s hard not to image all these guys not focused on the task at hand. And while many are, obviously, some are not. Not that it would be an excuse to allow it to happen, but if we were coming off a 1-11 season and lost our key players and had very few starters returning, some of the turnover wouldn’t surprise me as much. Obviously, there’s nothing you can do about injuries. They are unfortunate, they happen, you have to overcome them and move on. But the suspensions, dismissals, academics casualties, transfers, etc, these things can be controlled. We have already lost nearly enough players to fill an offense and defense. As mentioned in another post, it will certainly take its toll down the road say in the next year or two, if not already this season. With all that has happened, it really makes this a make or break season for us in terms of a potential MAC title and if we’re lucky, we’ve seen the last of our losses from this year’s team.
GO BG!!!
