BGSU Player draft
Re: BGSU Player draft
Jelani was a really good late round pick. I've got a couple other guys in mind from the early 2000s teams that are steals this late. I thought 1 of them would have been a much earlier pick.
Re: BGSU Player draft
I believe Rob Fehrman played on the 2000 team, so I'm taking him.
Good player, GREAT guy. Worked with him for years after he graduated and he was bouncing on/off the Steelers.

I think the game would have been a bit more fun if we had more than the 3 slots for skill guys. I filled mine up in the first 3 rounds, but there are some guys that I have very fond memories of still on the board at this point.BGGrad01 wrote:Jelani was a really good late round pick. I am absolutely baffled that Kurt Gerling has not been selected yet.
And Joe Alls was a pretty damn good RB too. Probably would have been my #2 back behind Pope if I were ranking them all.
Re: BGSU Player draft
I was thinking of Gerling in the earlier post. I went back and looked at the stats from the 2000 and 2001 seasons and forgot that David Bautista also put up some good numbers on teams that didn't really throw the ball very much.
You guys are building some solid teams. I would agree with hammb that adding a skill player or 2 would have been good, but this has been fun to follow you guys' picks.

Re: BGSU Player draft
Picking the really good players was easy. Picking the players a tier below them is a lot more challenging. There are a lot of defensive players that I can't differentiate between anymore. This has been fun though. Looking through the 2000-2004 rosters there were so many guys I had forgotten about.

Re: BGSU Player draft
I need a dangerous receiver. So far I have two posession guys in Hawkins and Jarrett. Mind you, they are both very good players you could count on to make catches. But, seeing what is left for receivers with some speed that could light up the totals, I'm going with a very recent guy.

RB Joe Alls (Would have been happy with him or Geter but I give the edge to Alls because he can bruise)

Looks like I'm down to all lineman, based on my defensive scheme. Of all the defensive linemen left, I remember one as a true beast that I always enjoyed watching.

Fun excercise guys.......Are there any restrictions like amount of time on an active roster or playing time? I can think of a few guys that "I think" would have been great in the MAC but they did not last long. Also some guys who through their own actions got themselves thrown off the team. Maybe we need an all bad boy team as well.
Re: BGSU Player draft
Thaler is a great pick. I was thinking of taking him, but I think Young was a better player even though only 2 years of his were @ BG.
I'm gonna go with Jarrett Sanderson.

Hammb I almost want to take Tyler Sheehan just to screw you
...I can't believe it fell this way. I was sure that the first 4 picks would be the three QBs of the decade and Pope.

hammb...you and I normally agree on talent...but Thaler was a waaaay better DLineman here than Young.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: BGSU Player draft
I haven't had the time to do this draft but it's been great watching you guys select these teams. I was wondering when Gerling might get picked. KG is in the same class as Magner and Partridge as far as mental toughness and great hands. Loved watching #4 play back in the day.hammb wrote:I am absolutely baffled that Kurt Gerling has not been selected yet.BGGrad01 wrote:Jelani was a really good late round pick. And Thaler blows Young away...

Re: BGSU Player draft
I'm a little confused looking at everybody's defensive setup. Hammb is playing a 2-3-2, I'm playing a 3-1-3 (with Briggs able to float back into a LB position easily), and Globe is playing a 3-2-2. It's too soon to see what Kdog will be playing. My thought, though, is that most people have skill position players that will require some defensive pass coverage. Aren't we supposed to be setting our defense up supposedly to play a fictional game, or are we just drafting the best players we can find? Perhaps you have an idea on how your defense will work for you, but I just don't see it.

I think Young was more talented, and given a 4 year career would have been a better player.
I went with pure talent level on that pick, not production alone. And certainly not production while at BG. I just think that he would have been a stud if he stayed here on the DL for a couple more years.
At this point I'm taking pure talent/upside.
51: You touched on the reason I took Dozier. He was a very good LB for us, and my base defense is going to be a 2-3-2, but I really like Dozier's ability to slide back to safety (which was probably always his better position) and go to a 2-2-3. Also I seem to remember Burkes as a pretty good blitzing LB to give me the additional pass rush when need be.
