9/6/08... BRING ON THE GOPHERS!!!

Post by TG1996 »

The Doyt can't host Big Ten teams?

Try telling that to Minnesota!!!

http://www.gophersports.com/sportsNews/ ... _id=mfball

2008
-Aug. 30 MAC OPPONENT (to be determined)
-Sept. 6 at Bowling Green
-Sept. 13 MONTANA STATE
-Sept. 20 FLORIDA ATLANTIC
-Sept. 27 at Ohio State
-Oct. 4 INDIANA
-Oct. 11 at Illinois
-Oct. 18 Bye
-Oct. 25 at Purdue
-Nov. 1 NORTHWESTERN
-Nov. 8 MICHIGAN
-Nov. 15 at Wisconsin
-Nov. 22 IOWA

They've got a number of other "TBD MAC opponents" listed in the coming years as well, I would assume one of them is a trip to the 'Dome for BG. I wonder if we have Moe Ankney to thank for this?

That's great for you guys. UT hosted Minnesota in 2001. We brought in temporary seating and had over 34K in attendance. I am sure you guys will have a great crowd for the game.

Congrats!

Minnesota is a good team to play. It seems like Glen Mason likes to make as many stops in Ohio as possible. Should be a good game for you guys.
UT is listed in the 2004 edition of The Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the 328 Most Interesting Colleges by Trent Anderson and Seppy Basili as one of the U.S. schools with the “Most Beautiful Urban Campus.”

Yep. I think Minnesota is on the high end of the list of "doable" home games vs. Big Ten teams. I'd say Indiana, Illinois, maybe Northwestern are all very "gettable" games, Minnesota goes on that list, but raises the quality level pretty substantially.

Awesome. Best (assumed) team to play in the Doyt since I came to school here. They can drool over our shiny new Sebo. It'll look like the Taj Mahal compared to the Metrodome.

I noticed that their 2006 game at Kent St. was listed at either Kent or Canton. I wonder if BG's game might become another "home" game at Cleveland. Certainly, that beats a road game, but I have my fingers crossed that the game would be at the Doyt. Since the capacity is down to 24,000, I think temp. seating would be needed in the south endzone.

Ah, good point.

Raining on the parade, of course, but a good thought.

I think BG has a distinct advantage over Kent State as far as a home stadium goes (do they have seats on the visitors side yet?), and also, wasn't the Wisconsin game announced to be at Browns Stadium as soon as the game itself was announced? Either way, another nice pickup for BG, having it at the Doyt would just be awesome.

I wonder if BG will have an announcement on it with any details anytime soon?

This is a great home game for us. Hope our run defense is a little better by then.

I wondered how long it would take for the subtle negative undertones.

I understand the Big 10 is a big thing...but we did host Mizzou a few years ago...and although it is Mizzou...they are a Big 12 school!! I think that has to be taken into consideration....and if I am not mistaken...the trip is nearly just as long and obnoxious!
