I know somebody had done one of these a couple of weeks ago with osu. I was just wondering the same thing but with ut. Also, who has had more success in the NFL and NBA coming out of these two schools.

So far as the NBA goes, BG=Nate Thurmond, Butch Komives, Al Bianchi and Antonio Daniels. UT=John Brisker and Steve Mix.

Tom Kozelko from TU also played in the NBA but BG would still have the advantage.

They've got us smoked in football. Herndon, Taylor, Kaczur, and more I'm sure. Omar might be the highest profile player eventually from either school, but Taylor could end up being a star if he gets in the right situation.

I'm aware of the following current NFL players from Toledo with the teams they played for in 2005:
OL Nick Kaczur - Patriots
RB Chester Taylor - Ravens
CB Kelly Herndon - Seahawks
C Andy McCollum - Rams
DB Patrick Body - Bengals
WR Carl Ford - Bears/Eagles
WR Lance Moore - Saints (split time on actual squad and their practice squad in 2005)
K Todd France - Eagles (split time on actual squad and their practice squad in 2005......play for Philly's AFL team this Spring)
Both Lance Moore and Todd France are a bit of a stretch because they only played on the active roster for a few games in 2005 and it is not certain as to whether or not they will make an active roster in 2006. Although Lance Moore did sign a new 2 year contract with the Saints in the off-season.
Punter Gabe Lidstrom has been bouncing around the NFL for a few years too. I believe he only played in the preseason and then went to someone's practice squad for a while in 2005 though.
Both Kelly Herndon and Andy McCollum have played in the Super Bowl, and McCollum has a ring for winning it.
Nick Kaczur stepped in as a starter for the Patriots when the normal starter went out with an injury and he played very well. I think he is going to be a very steady player in the NFL like McCollum has been. McCollum has been in the NFL for something like 10 years and has been a starter for about 7 or 8 years now.
Chester Taylor definitely has the chance to be a star somewhere. He is a free agent, unrestricted, this year and I think we will see him go somewhere that he will be the featured back in 2006.
Kelly Herndon started every game for the Broncos last year, but only started 5 or 6 games for Seattle this year. He's still pretty young and probably has about 6 or 7 years left in him.

I tried to limit it to guys who had played a fair amount in the NBA/ABA. That's why I left Kozelko off too.
I think BG had a guy picked number 1 overall awhile back, but he didn't have the career Thurmond did....I'll look it up

you can add the following to BG's list of NFL guys:
Dave Preston Denver Broncos
Jeff Groth New Orleans Saints
Bob Reynolds St Louis Cardinals
Jamie Rivers St Louis Cardinals
Fred Stuart
Mike Weger Detroit Lions
Doug Smith LA Rams
I am sure there are more, but those are some that had a significant NFL career and played at BG.

I could not find a #1 overall, but I did find #2, #3 and #4 overall picks.
Charlie Share was drafted #2 overall in 1950.
Thurmond was a #3 pick in 1963.
Daniels was drafted #4 in 1997.

If we're talking significant NFL careers, then we have to mention Martin Bayless and Phil Villapiano as well.

I believe you are referring to Fred Sturt (not Stuart) who is a former Falcon that played for a couple different NFL teams in the late 70's and early 80's. He went to my High School (Swanton) and they had his jersey from the New Orleans Saints displayed in one of the trophy cases. Fred was before my time, but I ran track with his nephew in High School.

Khary Campbell is currently in the NFL.
Also if we are talking MLB I think BG would win there as well:
Roger McDowell
Orel Hershiser
Jeff Jones
Andy Tracy

There have been a lot of past NFL players that went to UT. Too many to even try to say. Some of the more prominent ones would be Mel Triplett (won a world championship with the Giants), Gib Stick, Marty Slovak (played for the old Cleveland Rams), Emlen Tunnell (is in the NFL Hall of Fame), Mel Long, SR (Cleveland Browns), Tyrone Brown (played in the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons in the late 90's), and Dan Williams (1st round pick and played for the Denver Broncos for years).

I just found a website that gives you a comprehensive list of every former NFL player and NBA player. It has an option that allows you to run a query to pull out players who attended particular schools. Here are the results for BG and Toledo, for those who are comparing the two:
http://www.databasefootball.com/players ... reen+State
http://www.databasefootball.com/players ... sch=Toledo
http://www.databasebasketball.com/playe ... University
http://www.databasebasketball.com/playe ... +of+Toledo
I'm not clear of the criteria they are using for former players or how often the database is updated, because I did not see names like Josh Harris, Sean Suisham, Lance Moore or Todd France.
Both schools are pretty even as far as the number of football players is concerned, but BG looks to have the advantage in quality and quantity of NBA players.
Regarding the listing of professional football players from Toledo, I have three words for our webmaster: ED SCRUTCHINS
