The way I see it, if Brandon "wants" to stay at BG and he "wants" to remain a Falcon, he should squash the UNLV rumor - NOW! The longer it goes on, the more likely it could happen. I sure as heck hope he stays, because frankly, I am getting tired of this kind of thing happening with BG. I understand the attention generated is through our success, which is great, but after Dan Dakich and WVU, Urban Meyer and Utah, and now Gregg Brandon and possibly UNLV......I'm ready for a coach to stand up and say "I'm where I want to be" and mean it. Not someone who bolts and comes back (Dakich), or says he's staying and then goes (Meyer). I want Gregg Brandon to stay, say it, and mean it.

I just read the new edition of Sports Illustrated On Campus and a UVA player noted that until this season they didn't have a marching band. Did their band get elminated or suspened for some reason?

I can't imagine a fall afternoon near a gridiron without the fight song.. .

Virginia had a Pep Band but not a Marching Band until this year. Funny enough, the new band director came from Westeern Michigan. But getting the marching band was so needed, it was obviously lacking without one.

What is Brandon's contract status? Did he get an extension after last year? Maybe BG needs to sweeten his deal. But I don't know how much extra we could offer, except being a better place to coach and raise a family...

It's been stated before, but I don't think we can really expect - at least in the short term - a coach to come here, win a lot of games and decide to stay. We're just never going to offer enough money to make it palatable. That being said, I don't want us to have a revolving door, either. If Brandon left that would be three coaches this decade (is my math right?).

And while I want to say that Brandon should come out with a declarative statement, I seem to remember another former BG coach making such a statement shortly before the moving van pulled up.

If he went to UNLV, that would be a huge mistake on his part. What Urban is doing with Utah is special. Let's see how that plays out 3 years from now. Those are not even his players yet. UNLV won't be going anywhere, no matter who coaches them. If GB goes there he will be soon forgotten. Name the coach of Boise? Not many people can, and they are a good program. Urban has received great press because of his link to Notre Dame, and upsets of bigger schools during his time at BG and of course what he is currently doing at Utah. GB's path won't be as colorful. As far as national attention and spotlight, UNLV would be a lateral move at best. If we were talking Big Ten, Big East or Conference USA, then I would be worried.

Conf USA would be a lateral move as well...if not, a step down.

Wyoming is a lateral move at best.

I'd place Nevada-Las Vegas a few notches ahead of Wyoming or Bowling Green -- and well behind Utah -- in terms of how far along they are as a program.

It seems that, historically, Rebel football has been a tough sell in Vegas. The best example I can think of is the '94 Las Vegas Bowl. The Rebs were in the game, and they couldn't even sell it out, from what I remember.

The problem: Lots to do in Sin City. Also, a huge proportion of residents are transplants.

On the other hand, Nevada-Las Vegas is is a major player in a huge, underserved market (Las Vegas may be the biggest city in America without any major league teams). And the Rebs have done fairly well these past few years on the football field.

I think, given enough time, the potential of Bowling Green football is unlimited. We can build anything here, given enough time.

But I gotta admit Nevada-Las Vegas is a little further ahead of us. Brigham Young is the benchmark of non-BCS programs ... and UNLV is closer than we are right now.

It helps they can throw around all that money. That's how they got John Robinson in the first place.

That's the ultimate test. What's most important to him?

Maybe. The only reason I say Conference USA, is because most of the teams in that conference have more exposure then UNLV would. Things that occur on the west coast have a tendency to be overlooked. The center of the college football universe is in the mid-west and east coast of the United States. Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big East, half of the Big 12. If I were chosing a coaching path, it would be towards these conferences.

Its not a lateral move if he doubles his pay. He should only squash the rumor if he means it. If he might do it, he shouldn't.

Exactly.

If there is a huge pay raise involved he'd be a fool to not consider the possibility. If he is considering the possibility he shouldn't be stating that he is not.

Personally, I don't think I'll cry over his loss quite like I did Urban's.

They will have to pay any coach good money to go to a hell hole like Las Vegas.

Other than gambling, there isn't much to do. No real cultual nor entertainment base there (and no, I don't mean Sapphire, Tangerine, or Cirque de Soleil at the the Bellagio.)

If I'm offered $600K however, I would tolerate the desert.

No entertainment base there??? :coo-coo: I think I could go to Las Vegas, stay for three years, go out every night, and still have never done the same thing twice. LOTS to do in Vegas, baby! 8)
