If you click to see the larger image on the first photo in the Sun Sentinel article you will see the following tidbit:
In training
Bowling Green's Omar Jacobs goes through passing drills in preparation for the NFL Scouting Combine. He has been working with a quarterbacks coach as well as with a former Mr. Universe who functions as a nutritionist, sports psychologist and strength coach.
I have to say that I think Omar looks a lot bigger in the upper body than the last time I saw him in person!!

FWIW, there was a picture of Cole Magner on the front of the Sentinel today. Apparently he participated in Pro Day for a second straight year.

theres the pro day results, i must say, I'm very dissapointed in some of the results. The only person that helped his stock was PJ. But the numbers put up by Steve and Chuck I must say are shocking especially Chucks 40 time. I'm hoping he was just outta shape or didn't get a good warm up in or something because everybody i know on the team said that he usually runs in the high 4.4's. Also, his vertical isn't as high as i thought it would be because we've all seen him do crazy things. I know i saw him jump from the free throw line in a intramural basketball game and just give a lil finger roll like it was nothing.

What you state as concerns is exactly why I hate the combine and these Pro Days. All it is is a bunch of numbers. To me, it means nothing compared to seeing film and watching what a player can actually accomplish on the field. I would compare this to someone taking an IQ test, scoring well, and then thinking then should be able to do brain surgery just because they are smart. Just because you can run fast or jump high, it doesn't mean you can go over the middle with a 240 lb safety bearing down on you and still make the catch. Those things can't be measured, but players stock rises and falls based on these statistics.

The way most GMs & Coaches approach these things is that the workout numbers can only reenforce what you already see out of a player on the field. The players actual stock rarely rises and falls based on these numbers as much as many media outlets want you to believe.
In the case of our offensive players they played in a very friendly offensive system that in a lot of ways does not lend itself well to the pro style offenses. They all had some successes in that scheme, but was that because of the systme or because of their individual talents?
Looking at the numbers posted I think PJ did himself a good job. I don't think he'll get drafted, but that's mostly due to him being hurt this past year. He'll get a camp invite, IMO. Looking at our WRs what I see is a stunning lack of the athleticism to get it done at the next level. The 40 times are slower than you want in a WR, but straight line speed is rarely relevant. However, vertical jump is a great indicator of athletic ability. It's lower body strength combined with the explosiveness of those muscles; both of which translate quite well to football ability. Again PJ's is pretty respectable for his size & position, but Sanders & Chuck are way below standard for the WR position.
Workouts are certainly not the gospel of looking at prospects, and I don't give them a whole lot of credence, but there is something to be said about the overall athleticism of a prospect. The higher the athletic bar is on a player the higher that player's eventual ceiling will likely be. A lot of the athletic freaks will never reach their potential, but the potential is high. Conversely a lot of the lower tier athletes will reach their potential, but that potential will only be as an average player. These numbers are mostly only used when a team views multiple prospects in a similar light and they want something to break a tie.
For instance in this year's draft you have a number of guys who look like they could be good 3-4 hybrid OLBs. Manny Lawson, Bobby Carpenter, and a couple others all played a lot of DE this season, and have the size to play OLB rather than DE in the NFL. All of them posted between 8-11 sacks and had decent tackle numbers. However, looking at the way the workouts are going Manny Lawson just seems like an athletic freak of nature. That makes me think he's got the higher ceiling even though a few of them may be similar players at this stage in their careers. Due to that fact Lawson will quite likely be the first hybrid type player taken in this year's draft.
In the end I do think the workouts are valuable, but not as valuable as a lot of the media types want to believe. I do think that both of our WRs showed a stunning lack of elite level athleticism and combined with the offensive system we run that would make me seriously question their potential for the next level. WR is a position where there is a high premium put on athletic ability. It can be overcome with solid route running & great hands, but you're definitely at a disadvantage to the other guys you'll be competing with in camp with those sorts of workout numbers.

I think Jelani may have helped himself a bit. There's a lot of DB's in the NFL that have his size and 4.5ish speed.

since steves time was that slow, i just want to know how slow that db was that steve pulled away from in the wisconson game when he stopped on a dime and then out ran everyone to the endzone. lol

That was my favorite play of the whole season.

I just hope this was just a off day for both of them. They have to do better those subpar 40 times to be even considered a draftable receiver.

yes as it was my favorite play too since he ran right into where we were sitting and we were in the front row and then got on tv, i had like 20 missed calls after that play of people telling me i got on tv. anybody was sitting in that section, i was the guy in the front row getting tossed in the air after every touchdown
