I heard today that we are switching our mascot to the Red Bird next year. This source told me Coach Brandon along with some football players were passing out Red Bird shirts at the Union the other day and were telling people about the switch. I actually heard this from their friend before hearing it from them but they didn't have a chance to talk in between my conversations with them That kind of made me wonder if it was possibly true because they both said the exact same thing to me with no conversation in the middle. I also heard they will change our colors to orange and black along with the new name. If this is false, that's fine. But if this rumor is true, WTF?! I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers but I was wondering if anyone else knew anything about this? What do orange and black have to do with a red bird? This is something I don't believe would ever happen and hope someone can clarify to me it isn't true.

A) Why would we change to a similar mascot as two other teams in the conference, including a longtime rival?

B) Why would we throw out 70 or 80 years of tradition of the nickname, not to mention new uniforms to change to said mascot. (Not to mention Freddy and Frieda costumes that have yet to wear away as tradition dictates!)

C) The Rec Center looks like a Falcon, not a red bird. Though maybe a precursor to this move is when they filled in "Peregrine Pond" a few years back. Hmmm....

D) If Coach Brandon really *WAS* handing out shirts and info about a name change, I say "Viva Las Vegas!"

E) Did you know that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?

I'm not gullible and don't believe this. But if I hear from someone else who was there during this passing out of shirts then I might start to. Personally I think it's a load of BS...

Red Birds with orange and black colors.... sounds reasonable to me...

How is the horse hockey team supposed to do this year? I'll have to go see a game.
