According to newspaper reports in New Mexico, a decision is expected on the new UNM AD on Monday.
The last of the 3 finalists was interviewed yesterday.
Whether the "decision" means a press conference introducing the new AD I don't know.

Interesting.
They need to make an offer first and then wait to see if it is accepted, countered, or rejected. I wonder how they know that process will be completed by Monday, especially if the 1st candidate rejects the offer and they need to move to their 2nd choice.

A "decision" could simply mean that the board will have made up its mind by then. At that point they would then extend a formal offer to one of the candidiates. You have to assume that they've discussed a salary range, date of availability and other pertinent information with all three of the finalists. (Krebs, Hartzell and Schus)

or they have already extended an offer and the canidate has untill monday to return the answer.

I highly doubt the U would tell the paper we'll have a decision by Monday, just to announce Monday that they will announce the decision on, say, Wednesday.

The UNM board meets the week of the 13th. One of the items to vote upon is the new AD position.
From what I have read, it seems as though our Mssr Krebs is a fan favorite and apparently the front runner. It helped he wowed the media on Friday.

I have a hard time not thinking that he will get the job. Don't undercut his time at Ohio State as a foundation for his time at BGSU. He has done a fine job at BGSU, and I'd be happy to have him stay. But working on the assumption that he is going to move to NM, I will say that the times that are coming where his moving on, and a fresh face coming in might help.
What we need is a "war-time Consigliere." Somebody that will get up in front of the MAC, thump his shoe on the podium, and yell "we will bury you!" There are going to be buildings to construct, money to raise, coaches to fire and evaluate, and as much as BGSU athletics has matured and evolved, there is more to be done. Krebs has laid the foundation on which an even slicker and more aggressive program can be built on. Mate that with the strong enrollment, private money coming in, and general contentment on campus, you can more easily make a fight for spending on athletics.

I think the best scenario is Paul staying for the department.
Whether that means he does not get offered the job or turns it down (which I would be surprised he would do after going this far with it) I will take it either way as I truly believe that is the best case scenario!
Stay Paul...the department needs you still.

The Northern Iowa AD pulled out. It looks like it is down to Krebs and the Wichita St. AD.

For what it's worth--According to New Mexico newspsapers, the Northern Iowa AD who pulled out, Hartzell, said he was "uncomfortable" that Rudy Davalos, the current UNM AD would still be involved in some way.
I do know this. Davalos is not an especially good PR man. He is gruff and has alienated some fans and media. He is not retiring as AD until August.
Also, I'm not fully knowledgeable about the other remaining candidate besides Krebs. His name is Schautz (or something like that) and he is the AD at Wichita St. I think he may have earlier held a position at Arizona and so he may have some connections with people at New Mexico.
I believe that the Wichita St. team has just won an invite to the NCAA tournament.
UNM athletics is tilted in importance to basketball although football is improving. Could it be that BG's lack of basketball success, at least for men, will hurt Krebs?
Don't get me wrong here. I think that Krebs is a super AD and I'd hate to lose him, especially since so much is going on now--Sebo Center, Convocation Center, and more.
One thing that surprises me is that I thought Krebs would wait for an AD opportunity at a BCS school in football. Some Mountain West Conference fans have been claiming that the Conference will be admitted into the BCS group. The only BCS Conference in the West is the PAC 10.

Comment--I think the acting President of the UNM would be better off if he kept his mouth shut.
Prediction--Our beloved AD, Paul Krebs, will leave BG, go to Albuquerque, and after a few days announce that he must back out from the job.
At this point, BG President Ribeau, with Dan Dakich as an advisor, will rehire Krebs as BG AD.
Then, we'll all celebrate.

But then the athletic department has a few bad years and everyone on here starts bitching, moaning and crying and calling for his head on a silver platter!!.

Salsa, this makes your attempt to get Rocket fans riled up a couple months ago on the MAC board look even more foolish, eh? Of course I'm talking about the thread that you made speculating that Mike O'Brien must be on his way out of UT.

The difference here is that our AD is actually good enough to get another job, unlike the fearless leader of your new mascot needing athletic department!!!
