In today's BGNews, a front page article details the arrests of incumbent quarterback Anthony Turner and transfer defensive back Ryan Patrick on charges of drug possession. To brief, last Saturday at 1:30 am, campus police caught Turner and Patrick smoking marijuana in Patrick's GMC SUV in the Offenhauer parking lot. Both athletes made their first court appearances this week and have continuances scheduled for the week of April 3rd. Aside from legal action, Turner and Patrick face possible fines, probation from the University, and counseling services. In regards to the football team, assistant athletic director, JD Campbell, said that the situation will be internally handled by the coaching staff.
The online edition of the BGNews has not been updated to reflect today's stories yet, however, once it is, the story will be available here:

Oh great... That's just what Turner needs to get the university community behind him...

Cue Rocket fans gloating over this ...
Sad, sad, sad, to say the least.

I hope that the coaching staff takes action quickly and I hope the punishment sends a message to these players, the rest of the team, the university, the fans and the MAC (most especially TU fans)! I realize that AT has a great future here, but this punishment needs to be severe, IMO. It may be extreme to kick him off the team, but it should be at least considered. At the least, he should have to sit out several games next year and that could allow someone else to step up and be the QB of the future.

Awww....crap. A marijuanna smoking QB can be very disruptive to an offense. "I'm running an option right cause there's a kid over there with a pizza"

Turner is screwing up a great opportunity....Idiots, both of them..Turner is supposed to be taking a leadership role on this team now. What the F is he thinking? Brandon should kick his arss out of here. I am tired of these athletes thinking they are untouchable. Hey coach B - Give someone else a chance at QB!! Turner apparantly is not the answer.
Here is what I want - Players who respect themselves and respect this program. Those are the winners...not the dope smoking losers.
Yeah let's smoke a J in the car in the Offenhauer parking lot at 1:00 in the morning....dah......Not too bright.

We all should realize we live in glass houses (in terms of the Rockets).
Well, we know what Coach Dakich would have done here.

Ouch. I am not gloating. I love the level the rivalry has gone to with both programs playing so well the last few years and want that to continue.
I will probably post this on the UT board, but will not say anything negative about the situation. I hope the situation is taken care of properly and that these two young men realize what they have done and get their life back on track.
On a side note. I don't see the article about it in the link you provided. Maybe I am missing it. However, I do see where his case is in the BG court system and he has appeared once with his attorney so far.

Anyone know how much we are talking about? Is this a misdemeanor or just a violation?

Schadenfreude...
Possession was less than 100 grams, each.

Minor misdemeanor according to the BG sNews. Regardless, what someone said earlier about the "leadership position" is dead on, and I'm incredibly disappointed right now.

Wonderful.....as if we didn’t already have concerns about Turner leading us on the field, this is certainly not what you want to see about him off the field either. This is not what you want to see or hear about from your potential starting QB and teammate. Very disappointing news......

This is good for the off-season. We haven't had a thread on the evils of smoking marijuana in a while.
I'll have to get a copy of "Reefer Madness" and watch it tonight.
