Practice today

Well the kids and I stoped by practice for near an hour today on the way from target shooting, and here is what we saw.
While I was hoping to see some Field goals there were none. it was typical BG weather a fair cross wind and the kickers were working on kick offs. Now it was hard to udge how into these kids were and I hope they were not as the kick were all low with little hang time (3.6 sec on average) some were nice high, hung and long. hopefully those were demonstrations of what to expect and not the prior.
Some real good tackeling drills and our RB's have some explosive speed more than I could to hope to see from two of them...the kind that makes you go wow, or holy s**t. when they hit the line make a move and accelerate causing guys to takel air behind them kind of explosive speed. you will see and hear more I am sure after the game.

Passing and recievers...well lets talk throwing motion. the ball by two of our QBs is held very low, then when brought up (the majority of the time more on this in a sec) ends up being tossed side arm. now it was as if when theese two (could not make them out but one was AT nearly positive) the ball came up to his ear, with a perfect motion and follow through. Velocities were all slower than Omars youll notice this too come spring game, but I am confident this will increase with time, and who knows our starter may not even be on the field yet...its possible.) accuracy was not an issue for all but one of the guys in blue. Timing seemed off between QBs and recievers and looks like our recievers are recieving alot of instruction so again confident that this will increase.
our lines o and d
Seem faster to me and more athletic than last season, they dont seem to be clamoring around but instead moving with determination and confidence. I see no problems here...except for our guy on crutches...but he will heal prior to wisky. he may even find himself with some unexpected competition when he heals...

Not sure who was doing the kicking but remember that BigBird is still down in Florida.

From what I have been told, the kickoff problem you mentioned should be taken care of once he plays.

Thought the same thing. Aren't BOTH kickers still in Florida?

(Too lazy to look at a roster, but....) Who's handling the kicking in the springtime? I think we're all thrilled about the freshman kickers coming in, but it'd be nice to have someone that is holding down the fort now, too.

Did we seriously redshirt 5 kickers/punters last year?

Goss was on the roster last fall and the other 3 are on the spring one now and as far as the punter goes he prob was on the team last fall as well so he is the back up to the punter from florida and the 4 kickers will fight to be Big Bird's back up i guess.

He may be making the point that as bad as our kickers were, couldn't one of these guys have helped us?

Well, I guess you could go there if you wanted to. I really wasn't trying to get at anything at all. It just seemed to me that redshirting 5 kickers seemed like a lot to me is all. It may be normal, though, for all I know.

If they were walk-ons and they don't play then they have been in essence "red-shirted".

If you are at the bottom of the depth chart and don't play that is the same as being tabbed as a "red-shirt" to start the season.

So these kickers were given lockers, and a bag of balls to kick during practices, but probably were never even suited up at home games not because we wanted to neccessarily "save" them, but because they were almoslt like extras on the roster.

Thanks for the report, MACMAN. I must say I am juiced to hear the news on the RB situation. IF we can run the ball effectively, we'll be so much better off this season until our QB and WR situation comes around. I have the utmost confidence in our O line...that will be the strength of the O this year.

Spring game in 8 days! Just bought 2 6 packs of Stadium Brats today on sale at Giant Falcon. They're in the freezer awaiting the grill next Sat.

FALCON FOOTBALL ROCKS!
