Omar Draft Predictions
Omar Draft Predictions
I thought we would have some fun and try to predict wher Omar will go this weekend in the draft.
Give us your best prediction: Round, overall pick and team.
Mine is Round 3, 71 overall to the New York Jets.
I think the Jets will take the offensive lineman D'Brickshaw Furgeson in the first round and look quarterback later in the draft.
I think some teams have been blowing smoke about Omar to try and make other teams think they are not interested. Someone will take a shot on him early in the third round. I have read where he has fallen out of the draft on the first day and most likely a second day pick. I also have seen where he has been listed as the fourth best quarterback in the draft.
I think it bodes well for Omar that you don't hear many teams talking about him. Teams are laying in the weeds hoping to get him in one of the later rounds. The question is, how long do you wait before its too late and someone else grabs him?

4th round - 5th best QB in draft. My top qb's in order are
Vince Young ( doesnt need the best talent around him to make plays like Leinart does)
Jay Cutler
Matt Leinart (see VY reasoning)
Croyle
Omar just not sure about him in the NFL. he will be the 5th taken. he had the great year 2 years ago but then he didnt repeat those numbers..the injury didnt help him..too many questions to have come out a year early.
When big ben came out there were no questions. Omar has some issues. these teams find something bad about everybody, even VY and Leinart, they definately have issued with Omar its jsut the way it is

There were a number of questions about Big Ben....the level of competititon he faced, his overall athleticism and he doesn't throw the nicest looking ball.
There may be some questions about Omar, but they weren't going to be answered playing here another year in the shotgun against the likes of Temple, EMU, Kent and the rest.
I think Leinart is going to be head and shoulders above Vince Young in the NFL. I don't think Young will ever look as good as he did against USC again.
So far as Omar's draft position goes....3rd/4th round Vikings, 'Fins or maybe even the Colts

All good points, Flip. For whatever reason, my son and I have been guessing Vikes, too.Flipper wrote:There may be some questions about Omar, but they weren't going to be answered playing here another year in the shotgun against the likes of Temple, EMU, Kent and the rest.

I know that I'm going to get a lot of stick for this, but I can't see him going before the 4th round.
For those that have read the scouting reports have weird release and questionable decision making been mentioned much? I think more than anything being injured last season hurts him pretty badly.

Awoooooooooga!
My gut tells me he falls to the fifth round and ends up with a team you wouldn't expect. That is, someone who has a decent QB, but takes him in the fifth because he is the best player available. Specific teams? Seahawks, Bengals, Eagles, Patriots, Giants. Somebody like that. I truly think Omar has a much higher "upside" then some guys that will go before him. Namely Croyle, Whitehurst, and for crying out loud Gradkowski. I have seen several rankings that have Gradkowski rated higher than Omar.
That must because of their 40 times as that is the only point where I see Bruce being better than Omar.

If Brucie goes ahead of Omar, I'll eat about 500 bugs. For some reason, Kellen Clemens has been a late riser, and he may push Omar down to the 6th QB selected behind the big 3, Clemens, and Croyle.
Personally, I think that teams are sandbagging on Omar because somebody wants him. I don't think that all the teams that are thin at QB can pass up on a physical specimen like Omar if he's sitting on the board in round 3. I think somebody will be forced to take him at that point.
Roll Along!
Our buddy Mel Kiper was on ESPN radio this morning and was asked the question of the QBs not named Young, Leinart, Cutler. He named Whitehurst, Croyle, Clemens, and Tarvarius Jackson. Said Jackson might have the strongest arm of any QB available. No mention of Omar.
I still think he comes off the board, round 4 to KC.

It's interesting that you bring up Denver and San Fran. The more I think of it, the more you may be on to something. Omar could be quite useful in the west coast offense scheme. What does he currently do well? Accuracy with the short route, leading his WR/RB the ball well.
Denver would be a good fit for Omar. He could use his quick feet and accuracy in the west coast offense.
San Fran, not sure they want to take another QB that came from essentially a similar system as Alex Smith.

You have to think Arizona, Dallas, Cincy, KC and St. Louis would all have an interest in Omar in the 3rd round.MACMAN wrote:Round 1 supriseSanfan or the Jets 15 or 22

Omar wont last past round three but these are my thought of who could take and where.
Going into the whole thing I thought he was a 2nd/3rd rounder, but the more draft stuff I read the more I see Omar ranked lower & lower. There are at least a couple publications that have Gradkowski ranked ahead of Omar, and I'm still not sure Bruce will be drafted at all.
I'm really starting to think that 3rd round is the best case scenario, and he very well could see the bottom drop out and land in the 5th or 6th round. I think he'd be pretty good value there, because of his upside, but I could see it happening.
I've never been as high on Omar as most on this board, but I still always thought that he had tremendous NFL potential and would be a pretty good prospect. However, he's really flying under the radar thus far, and that is rarely a good thing when it comes to the draft.

That's basically my scenario as well. And that is why he goes to a team that doesn't necessarily have a need at QB because they are taking the BPA that late in the draft.hammb wrote:he very well could see the bottom drop out and land in the 5th or 6th round.
