Improvements to the Doyt....

I may have missed a thread on this a while ago but don't remember seeing anything about it.

After the spring game was over, we went down to the field to talk with the players and coaches. After a while, I noticed something different about the railings along the bottom of the stands. The Univeristy ripped out all those rusted thru railings and sections and replaced them with new steel sections and railings and there is an orange "BG" on every other section or so. Some of those old sections had rusted thru so badly anyone could kick them out without trying and a couple sections were missing at the end of the 05 season.

Anyone else know about this? They look GREAT!!

We noticed those too....I meant to get a quick photo of them but I forgot to. They looked really nice. It would be great to replace the chainlink fence around the stadium with some stone and brown wrought iron that includes a larger set of "BG" emblems.

Agreed Flipper. The Doyt has many flaws, to be sure, but it is still a good home for our team. That chain link fence is the one thing that just screams low class beyond all others for me. Build a real Fence/Wall combo PLEASE :)

I know it will take money, but it would be the first thing I'd update about the Doyt...I'd also have the new convo center close off the South end of the stands to make it completely enclosed...

BTW - I made a conscience effort to look at the underside of the stadium for some exposed rebar and I found NONE. I looked under every section under the West side of the stadium.

If we could just paint all the concrete somehow it would look pretty nice.

And talking about that fence. If you look at, it is certainly a very high grade of chain link fence. Yes, it is not the most pleasant on the eye, but it is anything but cheap.

The fence is pretty ridiculous when you consider they keep the gates open all day/night.

Agreed on the wall/fence. I don't really even believe we need either since we keep the gates ulocked almost year round, but a stone wall would look awesome!

The fence isn't meant to keep people out during the year, necessarily, but to control crowds during the game, for ticket checking purposes.

I agree that replacing it would be outstanding, but I'm far from the "that thing must go" camp.

I’m with you on our old chain link fence too, the thing screams bush league every time I see it. I really hope they replace that thing with a wrought iron fence or brick wall and columns combo or something once the Sebo is finished.

I'd settle for brick and aluminum colored black to look like iron. :)

(That's the style near Nationwide Arena, I believe).

Come to think of it, stone wouldn't really fit the stadium -- it would look too out of place (IMHO) with all the concrete out there.

But brick and "iron" could work great.

I agree with others. It would be a major priority for me to scrap the chain link fence.

What could we do at this site to start something to get a nice brick wall built? How much $$$ are we talking? I know next to nothing about building materials, labor, etc... but I think that would be a great way to continue to upgrade the stadium and it could be our (the ay-ziggy-zoomba.com) way the show our support for BGSU!

We're talking six figures, if not seven, I would think.

Agreed. If its going to cost me about $1200 to put up a 4' wooden fence in my backyard, putting up a nice stone/brick and "iron" fence around the Doyt would probably cost a couple of bucks.

Hmmmmm. New fencing but keep it in line with the SEBO design.

Interesting. What about a brick kneewall (matching SEBO) with Black 6" supports. The rod iron fencing between the supports would be a-symetrical similar to the SEBO roof line. The tops of each rod would be a Falcon talon (okay, that's a bit much but while we're dreaming and all.....)

Watcha think?

Or we could embrace the NW Ohio culture and just run some electric fence around the perimeter...

As beautiful as it would probably be, I still don't picture BG as a "bricks and iron" sort of place...

I don't see it traditional, but I see something which would embrace some of our artistic excellence of the school. I think that, if done well, it could be quite stunning and modern.

I'm eager to hear Tech's image for updates to the Doyt.
