Brown rookie mini-camp is this weekend. Any word on how the lad is doing?

They're not open to public or press, so all you'll hear will be responses to questions in the after session press conferences. Somehow I doubt that Sanders will be a hot topic...I'll keep my ear open though :)

Steve is my adopt-a-rookie on the Browns board :)

The Browns are really thin at WR now that they expect Edwards to be out until October or so. Steve has a wonderful opportunity in front of him. I hope he makes the best of it.

What's the Brown's board you visit Hammb? I'd like to check it out.

The best Browns board on the 'net is www.theobr.com formerly www.berniesinsiders.com although both of them will still take you there. It's the Browns board on the scout network, and is definitely the most active of all the NFL scout.com boards.

Warthog is also correct about the WR situation. Honestly I think the only ones with locks for roster spots are Jurevicious, Edwards, and Wilson. Northcutt will likely make the team, so that's 4. After those 4 they have nothing but former UDFA guys battling it out...Cribbs, Jackson, and Rideau. Cribbs has the upper hand as a kick returner, but if a guy like Perkins or one of the drafted guys proves to be a good kick returner I could see Cribbs struggling for a roster spot. There is definitely at least 1 WR spot (assuming they only keep 5) up for grabs for this group.

It would be great to see the Sandman make the roster...he has the physical tools. Best of luck, Steve!

But with Edwards injury thrown in, I am betting that there are two slots open. The Browns could still sign some journeymen free agent or make a trade, but this is a really good chance for Steve to get a serious look.

I'd be pretty surprised to see them go out and sign a journeyman at this point. I think they'll go into the season pretty much as they are now with the best of what's in camp. The Edwards situation is a strange one. He is still adamant that he'll be ready to go for the start of the season, but I'm definitely skeptical. The only way it will open up an extra roster spot is if he goes on the PUP list, and I really don't think that will happen. If he went on the PUP he wouldn't be eligible to play until like week 6 or 7, something like that. If he's even close to ready when the season begins they won't put him on there, which would mean they'd have to carry him as a roster player on their final 53.
