Sentinel Article on Scheduling

Sentinel had a good article today on football scheduling. Can't type the whole thing in, but here are some highlights.
Scott Seeliger is handling scheduling for the time being.
You can't pile up 2-1s....and we know it.
With that in mind, they hope MAC schools schedules games with return home games.
The Arizona State (2007) and Virginia Tech (2008) games are off.
In 2007, we have Boise and FIU at home, and are looking for a road game.
In 2008, we're supposed to be at Wyoming and at Boise on back to back weeks, which we are trying to change.
Pitt will be on the schedule for 2007, closing out a 2-1.
We want another 2-1 with Pitt.
Wyoming is coming here in 2009, and we are at Missouri that year.
Seeliger says which it was "administratively" bad to give up Boise, Coach Brandon felt it was worth it.
In return, the MAC is working to get BG a home game against a Big 10 opponent.
The OSU game in 2010 will probably not happen.

Isn't Minnesota going to play at the Doyt? Did something happen?
Or does Brandon mean another Big Ten opponent?

Yes, in 2008. O&B must have overlooked that part and focused on the WY/Boise issue. The article also says we trying get another two for one with Pitt, with one of the games being in 2008.

No, Minnesota was still in the article. The reference was to another big 10 opponent.

Here is a year by year summary of what is planned (this assumes that the Pitt 2-for-1 gets done)
2007:
BOISE ST
FLORIDA INTL
@Pitt (finishing prior 2-for-1)
need one more away game
2008
MINNESOTA
9/20 @ Wyoming
9/27 @ Boise St
@ Pitt (starting new 2-for-1)
trying to change the back to back trips out West
2009
PITT
WYOMING
@Missouri

I'm thinking 2010 would be a most excellent time to bring a Big Ten team (or an extra special opponent) to the Doyt. It will be our 100th anniversary.
I'm also thinking Pittsburgh might not dig playing us at their place two years in a row before coming to our place. You know how we feel about Temple. Their fans might take the same dim view of us.
But I like the concept.

Does it
have to be another away game? Why not a home game or another semi-home game at CBS? Just a thought...

I think we are looking the proverbial "payday" game. So, yes, it would have to be an away game.

I agree, I think BG makes more when they play at places like Oklahoma and Ohio State than when they host DI-AA or weak DI-A opponents...unless of course it was one of those power house schools, which won't happen.

Just cancel the 2008 Boise game after completing the 2007 season.

No way. BSU is a good opponent and could be great non-conference rivalry. Let's not burn bridges and act like South Florida.

So you enjoy 2-for-1's with non-BCS schools?
South Florida was a different situation. We played one game there, and they never visited the Doyt. With Boise, this would be a fair 1-for-1.

Ours was a 1-1. We signed two contracts with them.
I want us to be able to schedule more games with MWC schools (I think Boise is MWC).
I like Boise. Good fans and a good team. We need more solid non-conference match-ups.
Say what you want about USF, but they signed an agreement to play us at the Doyt and backed out. It was a *expletive deleted* move on their part.
