Early Season Conference Games

Do you like having an early season conference game as we do again this year on September 9th vs. Buffalo? Last year it was nice getting a W against Ball State in between the Wisconsin and Boise St. losses but the year before that playing Northern Illinois early on really hurt us. If we would've played that game later in the season when we were on a roll there may have been a different outcome. Me personally, I like playing all the non conference games at the beginning of the year and then jumping into conference after that like it is college basketball. I understand how difficult scheduling is now a days and we don't have much say in it but I'm just curious what people's opinions are on having these MAC games in early september.

And on a side note, the Buffalo game is the same date as the ohio st./texas game. Our kickoff is set for 6 and I'm guessing the OSU at Texas game will be primetime, probably 8:00. So there could be a small crowd for the Doyt opener if we keep the kickoff time for 6 or the place will empty out at halftime. I'll be there no matter what but I would like to watch the buckeyes game just because it will be a great college football game between 2 premier programs.

You mean to tell me that people don't care to see Buffalo battle it out on the gridiron?

Well, on to the topic. I've always prefered to have the Non-conference games first, and then the conference games, but as long as there's football I'm happy.

Ugh...it's the same as the OSU Texas game? I'll be at the Doyt, but I'd much rather watch OSU-Texas on TV than anybody play Buffalo...

Hey we'll be there! I can't wait for it! I'm going to get to the Junction early for some refreshments and the wife and I will be there!!! Regardless if it is one of the worst D-1 football programs of all time.....

I thought having NIU early in '04 was going to be a good thing. Play NIU when we're healthy and have plenty of time to get healthy again before playing TU. Unfortunately we did not take care of business and it ended up hurting us.

Remember in '02(?) we played NIU and TU in back-to-back weeks at the end of the season and I think Harris was hurting during the NIU game.

Actually, in 2002, we lost at NIU and then got drilled down at USF, 29-7. BG then came back in front of 5,000, at the most, to drill EMU 63-21 and then blew a 24-14 halftime lead at UT and lost 42-24.

I stand corrected. We played NIU and TU late in the season with a tough game sandwiched in there along with that cold EMU game. It sure felt like back-to-back weeks.

Yes, it did. We had absolutely no ambition down in Tampa after losing to NIU. And it was soooooooo freaking cold for the EMU game. The announced crowd was 12,000+. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Hey people that must watch the osu-texas game...........

Its called Tivo, or the VCR!!!! You've heard of those little intersting electronic contraptions right? Tape or DVR the game and get the Doyt and then when you get back home catch the all the exciting OSU-Texas action then, bingo problem solved. :smt115 Thats what I do all the time when a Michigan game comes on tv at the same time as a BG game at the Doyt.

I couldn't care less about Texas/OSU. I can find out who won the game after getting home from the Doyt. ;-)

OSU-Texas is set to kickoff at 8:00, but those games usually don't get kicked off right on time. We should all be out of the Doyt in plenty of time to catch the 2nd half :)
