The Sporting News picks BG #63 nationally

Post by BGSU33 »

Well, the college football magazines are starting to hit the newsstands. I picked up the Sporting News’ Big Ten regional issue today (it's the only one I saw so far) and they had the schools ranked from 1-119. BG was picked #63. I was actually surprised to see us that high, I was expecting us to be listed lower. Anyway, they have the BG/Wisconsin game as one of the good ones outside of their Top-5 must see games, and mentioned something about BG as a team for both OSU to watch out for, etc. Here’s where the MAC and BG’s 2006 opponents were listed:

2. Ohio State
32. Northern Illinois
33. Wisconsin
46. Akron
51. Toledo
63. Bowling Green
72. Miami (Ohio)
96. Ball State
100. Western Michigan
102. Ohio
107. Kent State
112. Florida International
113. Central Michigan
114. Temple
117. Eastern Michigan
119. Buffalo

The Top-25, in order was: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Auburn, LSU, West Virginia, USC, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Florida State, Iowa, Georgia, Cal, Miami, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Tennessee, Louisville, Texas Tech, TCU, Nebraska, Oregon, Clemson and Alabama.

Other notables for our future schedules: Boise State #31, Missouri #40, Pitt #42, Minnesota #54 and Wyoming #80. If you want to know any others, let me know and I’ll post them.

Where was Arizona, out of curiosity? They are going to be a new power in the PAC-10 beginning this year. But they are dead to me, so, you know, whatever... :P

63rd isnt great, but if you go by ranking it predicts us to go 8-4. I think that is realistic. I didnt know CMU was so bad though!

63? I would have thought we'd be lower as well. They've got us rated #4 in the MAC...not too shabby for a "rebuilding year" and what some think is gonna be a bad season. We'll be in the hunt for the title.

The only issue I get anymore is Phil Steele's. That usually hits the stands in mid June.

103 days....

'Freak....no doubt, Phil Steele's magazine is awesome! But let me fill you in on this, a little "birdie" informed me how the MAC will pan out in Phil Steele's magazine for 2006. The magazine will hit newsstands on June 13th and here's the breakdown of the MAC (I can't wait to hear the feedback on this one):

MAC East
1-t. Kent State
1-t. Ohio
3-t. Akron
3-t. Bowling Green
5. Miami
6. Buffalo

MAC West
1. Northern Illinois
2. Toledo
3. Central Michigan
4. Western Michigan
5. Ball State
6. Eastern Michigan

All-MAC for BG:
Kory Lichtensteiger - 1st Team
Derrick Markray - 2nd Team
Devon Parks - 2nd Team
Antonio Smith - 2nd Team
Corey Partridge - 3rd Team
Brad Williams - 3rd Team
Deaudre Perry - 3rd Team
Anthony Turner - 4th Team
Dan Macon - Honorable Mention

Is he still on the team? I thought his troubles finally got to be too much for him. Maybe I'm mistaken. :?

I thought I remembered reading he could be back on the team this year, something Gregg Brandon was talking about in the spring (anyone else remember this?). But either way, from what I understand, Deaudre Perry will be listed as All-MAC in the magazine.

I thought he was given another shot as well, but then something told me that it didn't work out for him. I hope that he gets a chance and makes the most of it, just for his own sake. :)

Yeah Perry will definitely be playing this year. The only reason he didnt play in the spring game was because he was hurt. Im guessing thats why some of you are confused? But look for him to start in the defensive backfield for us this year!!!! :D
