Five Star recruit has BG on his list

Aaron Davis' brother is a 5-* defensive end. Sounds like grades are an issue, but if Aaron could convince his brother to follow him to BG, that would be incredible. Young and Davis on the def line could dominate the MAC for three years.

I don't see Bowling Green anywhere on his lists of college choices. The only mention of Bowling Green comes from the writer of the first article, so who knows if the writer jsut threw us in there. It would be a tremendous get for us if he can keep his grades up, but as of now, he doesn't appear to be interested. Very disappointing! We need to get him here!

I noticed that too after looking at the web sites. I wonder if the writer simply threw us in so he could mention that his brother is playing D-I football or if there is a legitimate interest. I can certainly see where the recruiting services would leave us off their lists when they have all those BCS schools they can list instead.
There's likely no way........

This kid will be interested in us. His brother playing here won't have any effect him much when your a 5 star guy and will be getting offers from major BCS schools. Getting him would be the most miraculous thing BG football would've ever done bar none. A 6'4 285 DE sounds way cool, but we'd probably end up making him a DT which could be good too. So unless this Torrey Davis is really, really tight and close with his brother and really wants to play with his brother than I don't see this kid giving us a sniff, unless his grades continuelly get worse and all the major schools start pulling offerse and drop of his radar completely.

That's what they said about Jonathan Sigalet when he finally chose BG to come and play hockey with his BROTHER. Jonathan was recruited by EVERYONE and it was a VERY BIG DEAL in the world of D-1 hockey recruiting when he signed to come here. He had his pick of schools to choose from and he chose to come to BG to play with his BROTHER!!
Never say never!!

This ain't hockey though Marta

BG football has never been, nor will it ever be, as big of a deal on the D1 landscape as what BG hockey is.
I'd put our chances at landing this kid somewhere in the .01% range, but hey there's a chance. Unlike falconboy, I don't think it would be the greatest thing to happen to BG football...it's just one recruit. We don't have much chance to reel in 5 star guys, but it's still fun to talk about

I am very interested in the NCAA wrestling scene, and a lot of times when a wrestler signs with a certain school, the family seems to follow. It does not happen all of the time, but most of the time.
Having said that, I agree that it will be tough for BG to sign this recruit. Football is a different animal, kids have different mindframes. Most of the time if a player is a 5* they are looking to make money in the future. I have to believe that kids choose the big money NCAA football schools because they see it as an easier road to the NFL. If a player plays at a smaller conference school they more than likely will be questioned when it comes draft time. I wish that wasn't the case, but it seems to be that way.
I have always said that if I was a big time athlete (would have taken a bit more size-5'10" 185 doesn't cut it unless you can run a 4.4), I would have went where I wanted to go. That means if my favorite place was Eastern Michigan, I would have played there...if it was Ohio State, I would have played there...etc. As it was, my only option was a private DII school and I decided to go someplace else, for educational reasons.

I definitely understand the comparison of BG football (MAC) vs. BG hockey (CCHA) and how it ranks among their peers!! I mostly was trying to defuse falconboy's usual negative sentiments

and say something positive....because you never know what can happen!!

I don't know if this is such an issue any more.
Western Michigan had two kids drafted before any other school in Michigan -- and they weren't exactly household names, even among freaks like us.

Why bother getting angry with falconboy? If you've spent any time on this board at all you know the kid is the ultimate pessimist (and a bit obsessed with height and weight as a mean of evaluating talent). We're not going to change him and we shouldn't try to. Winnie the Pooh's 100 acre wood wouldn't be the same without Eeyore and AZZ.com wouldn't be the same without the boy.
Man....I have to quit watching so much of my kid's TV shows and movies. I just used a Winne the Pooh analogy.

Well whether we get him or not Aaron Davis is going to be our next Charles Sharon. Does that make him worth 5-stars? We could use a good DT or DE bad though, so I'll still hold on to our glimmer of hope!

from his interview in one of the scout links "Me and him (talking about Aaron) just stuck together most of the time...I treat him like that's my father...he tells me something, I take it with advice, cause everything I'm doing now he'd went through, so I know he know what hes talking about"
sounds like a good kid, watching the video, he is sooooooo quick for his size...he ran a 4.9 flat there which is great for being 6'4 285, but he said he usually runs in the 4.7-4.8 which is believable if you watch his video....However, he also said in the interview that his cousin went to UF, so he's been bread about the Gators.
and heres a pic of AD from the article with the video, incase anyone wanted it for whatever reason

Div.1 football is very different from Major college hockey. We have chances at landing big time hockey player from time to time , don't know why we do , don't think its cuz we won one national championship in '84 but we do for some reason. If your a true 5 star recruit your not going to "settle" in a way for Mac school when you can play for the B10 ,Big12,SEC, ACC,Pac-10 excetera. I could only see us landing 5 star player in a fantansy world if such a hs player from this area dreaming from birth to play for BG. But those players are not from this area anyway so thats moot.
I hope Aaron Davis is our next Charles Sharon. Thats all I'd be concerned with right now.
