Nice article on the Steelers Web site about Omar. Interesting to hear him talk about why he left BGSU a year early to enter the draft.

Good stuff. Just remember that at this point in the year you will NEVER read anything negative about Omar. Every team's writers prop up the late round draft picks as potential steals in their first training camp. Most go on to never be heard from again. Some of them end up as the next Tom Brady.
The talk is nice, but I could probably find you a similar article about Spergon Wynn

i'm curious as to why the writer had to look to another team's roster to find a trunover prone qb.

this is niice and being a life long Steelers fan I can say that while most teams will give props to thier late rounders, the steelers are a rare team that means it. they hold on to and develope young players, and with the steelers adopting a run and shoot/ spread offense Omar is a perfect fit. The steelers want to take advantage of of Ben, and Omars experience with this style of game play.
Omar will be around the steelers for while, and if Ben screws the pooch or his head gets as big niel O's he will be set free or traded away and Omar will next in line. But for this year Omar will be # 3 man, learning, adjusting and growing. Next year my guess is he will be #2 and Batch will go away.

As a Steeler hater, nothing would make me happier than to see the Steelers adopt a run & shoot or spread type offense. They flat out don't work in the NFL, and in the case of the Steelers they'd be taking away some of the effectiveness of what is by far their most dominant unit: the OL.
Personally I don't see that they have the WR corps to want to put 3-4 of them on the field anyways. Ward is a stud, and Holmes should provide a deep threat. Still, if you get more than 600-700 yards out of a rookie WR it's a bonus. Miller is a nice TE, but he's on the field most plays in their current scheme. I just don't see Cedrick Wilson or Quincy Morgan inciting fear into any opposing defenses.
I really don't see them moving away from the approach that has made Cowher the longest tenured coach in the NFL.

They're not going to. They learned their lesson in 2003 when they went 6-10. Cowher has publicly stated that the run% will be similar this year to last. Think 55-60% running as always. Their fullback is a stud, and Miller and or Tuman will be on the field almost every snap. That doesn't leave room for many 3 WR sets let alone 4. The only time you'll see spread principles is on 3rd and 3+ yards. Ben loves the shotgun, and the shotgun + 1 or 2 RB (Even Miller is back there sometimes with haynes) is what the Steelers prefer in those situations, especially since Parker can't be counted on to get the tough yards like Bettis could.
On 3rd and medium, the Steelers offense looks a lot like ours when we had BJ and PJ back with Omar. They'll be less trickery now with ARE gone, but that's the only time you'll see a spread offense anywhere near the Steelers' offense. Just because they drafted a couple receivers does not mean they are going to the spread.

The no huddle spread package has been a part of the O for a long long time, just not very used. Ben wants it back, weis wants to use it, but will they live and die by it...hell no, were just going to see it used to bolster a lead, then smash mouth their way to the win.
