A road game to Central Michigan takes me back to the fall of 1981. Me, Matt, Ray and Chris take off from Offenhauer for a road trip to Mount Pleasant.
Cowboy Brant Jones shredded the Chips on the ground, but it took a Martin Bayless goal line interception to preserve the victory for the Falcons. McClure was a freshman on that team but hadn't worked his way into the starting lineup yet, although he played some in this game. For the life of me I can't remember who was our starting quarterbacking that day? Somebody help me.
We stood in the closed endzone of the stadium and we got some insults thrown our way for cheering for the Falcons. The ending was so sweet and the ride home was a lot shorter after a Falcon victory.
I remember Ohio State was playing at Michigan State that same day and the highway was full of Buckeye fans making their way to East Lansing.
Why do we have to work all these years between college graduation and retirement?????

I was there that day. We were awful that season, but Bayless saved the game with that INT.
I thought that McClure's FR year we were pretty good. The other QB during McClure's FR year was Dayne Palsgrove.

Your right! McClure didn't get to BG until the next season in 82. Palsgrove and Mike Wright split time at QB in 81. That's the other QB I remember playing that day.
Bayless' interception came with under 20 seconds on the clock and killed a late rally by the Chips. I remeber they had a running back Curtis Adams that has tough to handle. That loss cost the Chips the MAC Championship that year and sent Toledo to the California Bowl.

I was working a night shift at the Bill Knapp's on Reynolds road. Man, there was a lot of old people eating there.

First time in a week I've laughed out loud.

81?! I wasn't even born yet and I'm sure my parents weren't even thinking about having me at that time! I feel like a youngin!

Was it Palsgrove or Cosgrove?
I remember Denny using him as a receiver a few times to try and get the kids some PT after McClure took over.

It was Palsgrove. Had the distinction of never losing a game he started until he got to BG.

I believe the fall of 1981 CMU beat BGSU something like 6-3 in the last game of the year at BGSU. Maybe you have the wrong year?

McClure's freshman year was 1982. The 6-3 game at BG was in 1981.
I checked the media guide.
I must amend my earlier comments. In 1981 I was probably at Bill Knapp's. In 1982 I was either at Bill Knapp's or down in Oxford er...."visiiting"... my girlfriend.
1982 was an interesting year. I got mono that year...I was sick asa dog for close to a month.

That was an awful, cold, nasty rainy day at the Doyt. Yick. One of the smallest crowds I remember. It was Marathon Oil Day to show solidarity for the company, which was being hit by a hostile takeover.

Does anyone remember a BG-UT game being broadcast on local TV from the Glass Bowl in the early 80s?
I think I caught one once on TV on a Saturday night when I was a kid.
The things that stands out in my mind: A loud crowd and an immense amount of toilet paper streamers blowing around on an astroturf field. I'm pretty sure it was UT... not as sure BG was the opponent.
I'm just curious if that memory clicks with anyone...
