CFN Rankings #1 - 119

Post by Warthog »

http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006 ... _90_99.htm

BG came in at #99, 7-5 predicted record.

Other MAC teams:
90 - Akron
92 - Miami
95 - Central
97 - Western
100 - Kent
102 - Ball
103 - Eastern
104 - Ohio
117 - Buffalo
119 - Temple.

They have posted #80 - 119 so far. So Toledo and NIU are above 80.

Even though CFN is almost always retarded, that list seems logical for the MAC. I think we can be better than #99, but I certainly can't fault outsiders for thinking we'll suck this year. All the ingredients are there for suckiness.

Even if that list might be a tad pessimistic, how bad is the MAC now? This conference has really fallen off in football since the big upsets a few years ago. We have a couple decent teams at the top, but there's absolutely no depth to the conference at all, and there never really was. I'm kind of embarassed at how bad the MAC has become overall in football. Some programs are moving in the right direction with facilities, but we need to see some improvement fast or there's not going to be any MAC left. I'm a tad worried about us getting left behind in a Sun Belt level conference when the next re-alignment occurs. I know a strong MAC that stays together is our best chance for long-term success, but I'm having a difficult time picturing a strong MAC right about now.

I agree with pretty much everything J4H has said. The MAC has not been strong since 2003. Even then it was just that we had 4 teams that were VERY good, the rest was still mostly awful.

I know that a strong, united MAC is what's best for BG football, but I just don't see how the MAC can get stronger when we have teams that are perennially in the bottom 10 of all of college football.

It's a shame to look at what the conference has become over the last few years. It's even more disappointing to remember how badly we struggled in that conference last year. I hope that this is the year the conference (and BG) can break out again, but I just don't see it. The conference, as a whole, looks like it might be even weaker than it was last year.

When 85% of the league is ranked in the bottom quartile of Div I teams, it is not good. I'm on record as being in favor of a move to another conference benefiting our football team. I probably need to go back and look at the rankings of the the C-USA teams compared to the MAC. Maybe not, though, since C-USA is dead and buried, right?

C-USA is a little better. 2 in the 90'S SMU and tulane. Rice comes in a 111. And 4 in the 80s, UCF, Memphis, Marshall, UAB. (my quick glancing). The rest probably fall in the 70s maybe 60s if I had to guess.
