Omar Still Not Signed???

Anyone want to speculate as to why Omar has still not sign a contract with the Steelers yet? Tomorrow the Steelers open camp and it isn't good to be a fifth rounder holding out on Cowher!

I know it was reported yesterday that he was close to signing and it was even reported that he was expected to sign the deal on Wednesday. But, here we are less than 18 hours from the opening of camp and no deal.

I read a couple of thing into this:

* Omar being a quarterback means the negociations are a bit different...more at stake if he turns out to be a good one.

* One of the sides (or both) are pushing Omar's potential from his performance at mini-camp.

* Steelers are thinking he has made the team already and he is their current number 3 QB with possible designs on being number 2 in the near future (next year?). Omar's agent is picking up on this and is asking for unsual money for a 5th rounder. Plus, if Big Ben can't go as expected he gets pushed to number 2 immediately. Who really knows the effects of that accident until Ben gets hit hard a few times?

* Omar is asking that some type of escape clause language be added to the contract since he is behind Ben.

* Or, Steelers aren't sure if Omar is ready and they are trying to save some money to sign a veteran QB in the event Ben can't go.

It has been a growing trend for players to sign there players to 4-5 year deals. Although locked up longer, it means they become a UFA right away.

Nothing on any of the Steelers fan sites...including the official team site...that says Omar has signed a contract.

There was a blurb in this morning's Pittsburgh Post that said he had come to terms in principle but was expceted to sign later today.

It's just semantics. He's agreed to terms of the contract, but he just hasn't technically signed it yet. He will today or tomorrow in all likelihood.

Can you imagine what our team would be like with Omar leading the team? We've got better "D" and great potential at receiver! Not to mention our running backs look very good as well. With an improved "O" line and "D" line, I think we'd be cooking some Badger meat this September!
