Well, Jacobs didn't disappoint Thursday because during 11-on-11, he hit Lee Mays on a deep crossing pattern over Mike Lorello. As much as I like giving Mays the business, he had a very good day catching the ball. Still, he'll basically have to cure cancer if he hopes to make the team out of camp.

A play later, Humes made a nice block on a blitzing Lorello and Jacobs, in the face of heavy pressure, patiently hit Holmes running an underneath crossing route"

On his first play, Jacobs displayed perfect touch on a throw to Quincy Morgan, throwing the ball right to the back pylon, just over the defense. Morgan easily settled under the ball for a touchdown.

Jacobs has really looked good throwing the ball in this camp, but I’m waiting to see how he looks against a defense that’s trying to get after him next week in Arizona."



That Arizona game will be televised live on the NFL network at 4:05 on Saturday. Omar will play quite a bit in that game.

Here is another camp review on Steelers Scout Web site. It's going to be a learning process for Omar no doubt about it. I keep thinking about the Bosie State game last year where he didn't seem to be able to make an adjustment to the defense he was seeing. He'll see a lot of that in the NFL. Hopefully he'll pick the offense up and the clouds all rookie QBs see will clear up. This makes what Big Ben did his rookie season all the more remarkable.

I agree that he isn't ready to start, but good lord I don't think its going to be that bad, and he should be fine as a #3 for now. As for the quick release and short dump off passes they should have expected that because its mostly what he did at BG!

I'm guessing certain columnists saw Jacobs perform well and certain ones saw him perform poorly. Hell, they could have both been watching the same play =)

One guy sees Omar be cool under pressure and check down appropriately to Holmes on a short cross to nullify the blitz. The next guy sees Omar panic in the face of the rush and needlessly check down instead of hitting Washington on the deep post. We see what we want to see.

My dad's friend Ron lives in Pittsburgh and works for the steel industry, traveling back and forth between Pitt and Toledo, from what he's told us, Omar has really won over some of the doubting Steela fans, showing that he certainly can execute his passes. I hate all the writers and naysayers judging a guy who hasn't had one snap in his pro career and already saying he looks like he's panicking. Is Omar ready to be a starter? Far from it, but he's got the tools and skills to learn what he needs to do, apply those and become either a backup or possibly a starter on a team who is willing to give him a shot.

Obviously our offense does not prepare QBs for the NFL. For Josh it was a struggle for him to get his steps and timing down from taking the ball from center and now it seems like Jacobs is having the same problems. It also appears that Omar needs to do his homework. I'm certain he is but this doesn't sound good. Like people have said earlier it's strange that Omar gets glowing reports then you read articles like this.

The glowing reports have all been of Omar's passes. I never doubted his ability to make throws, he can make them all.

I've never been convinced of his mental capacity for the game. A lot of our offense was him rolling and throwing out of the shotgun. Teams do that to take away half of the field from the QB having to make a read.

The dude has all the physical tools in the world, but the question has always been mental.

I agree that he hasnt always looked mentally ready to play. The Buffalo and Boise St. games stand out a little. But he can really rip it when he puts his mind to it, and I dont see why he wouldnt do that with the Steelers!

Ruh-roh. Jim Wexell is one of the most widely respected columnists for the Steelers. He has always had very reliable sources. That doesn't sound good at all. It sounds like Omar will really need to kick ass this weekend.

What time is the Steelers game Sat? I sure can't watch the freakin Tribe. And yet I have free tickets to the Tribe game Friday night. Hey, they're good seats and they're FREE! LOL!

The Omar evaluations are all over the board and is expected for a rookie who's ability/metal makeup was questioned quite a bit before the draft. Omar has a lot to prove, but at least here's one converted reporter's take on Omar in camp.

"I wrote that Omar Jacobs had issues with putting touch on his passes during the Wednesday workout. There was certainly no issue with his arm strength for any of the required throws. On Thursday, he married touch with accuracy and strength with several beautiful tosses of 35 or more yards. Between Jacobs and former NFL Europe star Shane Boyd, the Steelers have two players very capable of helping the team in game preparation. Both Jacobs and Boyd have solid arm strength and the wheels to mimic the running quarterbacks on the schedule (Pittsburgh will see Atlanta this year).
