I'm happy for Gradkowski, but Musselman doesn't have to go comparing the two quarterbacks. Another thing he doesn't realize is that there is so much more depth on the Steelers roster compared to Tamba Bay's. He his talking like Omar is dumb because he can't get the playbook straight. Roethlisberger and Batch say in the article that they are still learning from the playbook!
I'm not sure how you guys will react to this article, but for me, it's another reason why I can't stand Musselman.

I didn't even read the article, but the comparisons are inevitable. The two will be linked for the first few years they are in the league.

I didn't realize Omar was doing that badly. The tone of the posts here have been more positive.

He had one so-so preseason game and all of a sudden Omar is a failure.

Same for Bruce. While everything written has sung his praises its based on two preseason games against the bottom of the opponent's depth chart. I suspect that he will eventually be very good but its dangerous to base that opinion on his limited action so far, no matter how encouraging. Same for Omar-senseless to write him off a few weeks into his career. He had a great college career and he has some physical tools, including an awfully quick release. He will probably be fine. It is interesting how the Bruce-Omar comparisons have followed them into the pros and not just locally. Several Pittsburgh and Tampa articles have noted the connection as well.

The game has nothing to do with it. Omar has struggled mightily in practice with the mental side of things (to be expected from any rookie). He is also having a great deal of difficulty adapting to a conventional drop-back offense and going through his progressions. This was also to be expected since he was almost exclusively shotgun here, didn't really have to deal with much playcalling, and was often only given half of the field to dissect.
I'm sure Pittsburgh's scouts told them all of this before the drafted, and they chose to draft him anyway. Pittsburgh knows it will take a year or two before Omar is even a good backup QB. Any fan or columnist who expected Omar to come into an NFL camp and be lights out right from the start needs their head examined.
Everybody knew Gradkowski was more NFL-ready, but has a lower ceiling than Omar. Nothing that has happened this presesason regarding these two QBs should surprise anybody.

cant tell you Dan Ratherish that was. They have said numerous times now that Omar is the 3 man and they are happywith his progress.
Just because the says as anyone would they are having trouble learning something vey new, very very difference and very complex with tons of plays that look nearly identical that are only separated by little nuonces.
What a dumb ass, this guy clearly has no clue about football, he ought to report on soccer and leave professional analysis to professional..hell he could even jus tcut and paste an article out of pitt.
As for the compairisons yea this cat is from toledo and we all know there is no bias in toledo media.

To my knowledge, the Steelers have said nothing anywhere near this. The Steelers' company line is that Boyd and Jacobs are competing for the third spot, and that they have not been impressed with Jacobs thus far.
I think the Steelers internally think pretty much what you said, but they have by no means admitted it publicly. As far as the public knows, Jacobs could get cut next week and end up on the PS. The Steelers have given no indication otherwise.

Wait a minute. Are you trying to say that the Blade would say something bad about a former BG player on purpose and say something good about a former UT player? The Blade literally hates UT. The owner once said he was going to tear down UT and build it back up the way he wanted it. I can't really remember Mussellman being very positive towards UT.
From your comments, I have to assume you don't know the Blade very well.
By the way, I agree with H2Oville Rocket. Too early to tell with either Omar or Bruce. No reason to slam either one and no reason to get too excited about either one at this point either.

While I have a great respect for Coach Cowher & the Pittsburgh staff, it should be noted as well that Bruce is learning under possibly the best moulder of QBs in the NFL: John Gruden.
Anyone that can win with Rich Gannon (and make him MVP), win a superbowl with Brad Johnson, and then turn Chris Simms into a legit NFL QB? This guy knows what he's doing.
I still think Omar has infinitely more ceiling, but I could see Bruce learning behind Chuckie, and becoming a very solid career backup.

I think the Steelers could be talking Omar down a bit to dampen interest in him should they want to move him to the practice squad.

I've gotten that same feeling flip.
I doubt that a front office as competent as Pittsburgh's has proven itself to be would draft a known project QB and then cut him in his first preseason for not being NFL-ready.
It would be a different story if they had another viable option, but Shane Boyd is poop on a stick.

I think poop on a stick talks Boyd up just a little too much, don't you think?

Look on the bright side. He did finally mention that Omar throws 3/4 and not sidearm.
However he shows his cluelessness in stating that the winner of the Omar/Boyd battle will make the practice squad. The winner will make the roster and the loser will hit the PS.
And its pretty obvious why he added the Bruce stuff as it would have been a two line article without it. He must have spent 10 minutes on this article.
