Game thoughts....

Where to begin. I couldn't make it because my wife was very sick this morning, and I'm relieved I didn't go. I never thought I'd say that. I watched the game on the MAC-Sports feed, and I wish I had spent the last 5 hours spooning my eyes out.

Special Teams. STs are 90% coaching. We have better athletes than UB and they smoked us all day on STs. So far this year, STs has cost us 32 points. And we keep doing the same dumb-ass things over and over. We knew STs was our biggest deficiency from last year, and we did nothing to correct it. Unacceptable. This falls directly on the coaching staff.

Defense. The defense was good IMO. Still hitting instead of tackling, but the defense looks like the strength of the team thus far -- and the only unit that looks like they give a S#1t. Lovett is the next HC IMO. I said it when he was hired, and I fully believe it now. The sooner the better.

****We just scored to tie it up late in the fourth. Odds on the XP? 2-1 we make it. Phew -- we made it. So we might win now -- doesn't make any difference.****

Offense. Where to begin? This is supposed to be the value Brandon brings to the team? This offense has potential to be great, and it's being held back by Brandon and Stud. I like Freddie Barnes, and if we like him at QB, lets do it all the way. I think we're far better off long-term with AT at QB, but whatever. 2 QB systems NEVER work. N-E-V-E-R. It's the surest sign of a pussy for a head coach. Numero uno.

The play-calling was horrendous for the most part. How many QB keepers from an empty backfield did we run? Ridiculous. We ran two in a row from 3rd and 6 from the 8 yard line with the game on the line a few minutes ago. Both were predictably stuffed. Are you freaking kidding me? Everybody knew it was coming, and everybody knew it was going to be blown up, except for our coaches apparently. Ridiculous. The first series was a masterpiece. The running was diverse, and mainly utilized the 2-back shotgun set, which seems to be the most effective thing we do. It was unstoppable. So, naturally, one would think we would go back to it. I think we ran two more plays out of that formation all night, and only a handful of the option plays which were so successful. Winovich didn't have a single carry after that first drive. We'd rather run a QB sweep from an empty backfield for 2 yards 50% of the time. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

I'm going to watch overtime now, against my better judgement. I think we'll win, just because we have all the momentum, and because there won;t be any more kickoffs or punts. I don't care if we win or lose -- I want Brandon and the majority of his staff out. I'm going to be writing letters and making phone calls to that effect the rest of the season. I encourage anyone who feels the same way I do to follow suit. I gave him a chance, especially after last week's promise, but I am 100% convinced we will go no further as a program with him at the helm. In fact, we are most definitely regressing as a program. Unacceptable for the school and team that I love.

I was amazingly pissed off after being told I would have to give up my seat after the 2nd delay so I said screw it and left. I have no problem with them evacuating the stadium, but when I look on top of the Press Box and no one's moving from the camera points, I get a little upset.

I listened to the rest of the game on the BGU Webcast. All I have to say is I'm getting real tired of these Special Teams mistakes. I'm a Pro-Brandon guy but it's getting very old to see this crap every week.

Oh well, a W is a W.

I was too. I'm not anymore. That was the worst coached football team I have ever seen in my life. I left at halftime because I was afraid of getting so extremely pissed off that I would end up in jail.

I have never been so depressed by a win.

Gosh , tell me about , I'm surprised I lasted till the 4th qtr. Hammb is a total swami. He's been totally right all along and I have never been in more agreement with him.

hey guys, what was going on ? I first the result and get shocked, we
just won in 3rd overtime ..... now I read that .....
No ST, 2 QB playing, bad playcalling ........
When I read things like this and look to scores of our
upcoming opponents I get really scared about the season ......

IMHO, I am disappointed with the progress of the special teams play. We have shown no measurable improvement in all areas of the kicking game even with two highly ranked kicking recruits. That says a lot about the coach and his ability to take the team in the right direction. I don"t like the way the team and program are going.

win = win. Doesn't have to be pretty.

loss against Buffalo = REAL BAD.

I'll take the W. I'll bet the Huskies would have taken a win like this instead of a caning at home to Ohio! If wins come this way for the rest of the season I'll still take the w's if it gets a slot in the MACC.

This season could be a real white knuckle ride...

I heard on the radio on the way home that our attendance was 14,227 or something like that.

Pretty dissapointing even with a W.

I agree, From SEBO cam it appeared the student section was full even after the delay(s).

I heard the second half on the radio...wasn't going to make the wife and daughter sit through the second rain delay, so we went to Myle's and got a pizza and headed home.

As poorly as we seemed to have played, that's a game we would have lost last season. The offense came through when it counted and the defense made a stop with the game hanging in the balance. We didn't get that last year when we needed it.

ST needs a lot of work...the punter seems to be a bit shaky in particular (PK is a bit hobbled) and the coverage was atrocious. Defense needs a bit more consistency, but they're pretty young. The offense is coming along...the pieces are there to be dominant.

It's a young team that didn't fold when it was backed into a corner...at this point in an already strange MAC season, I'll take that and be happy for a week.

Good perspective. Flip. I'm attempting to be pragmatic with this game.

On a quasi related note, I'm sure FIU is readying for the QB Keeper as we type.

Never in my life have I seen a more poorly coached football team. The players don't know who is going where or when. The staff has no idea how to call a game. We have an offensive genius at head coach (my previous opinion), but we call the same F*#&ING 5 plays all game long?!? Are our QBs so dumb that we cannot trust them to run an actual offense!? We don't do too much of the goofy audibling any longer because we only have a couple plays.

J4H beat me to it, but I'm done. I've seen enough to know that my original thoughts were dead on. This guy can flat out not coach a football team and I want him out, ASAP. I don't want to sit around and watch him destroy this program, because it's painfully obvious that he has no clue how to fix the problems. Game in game out its the same $h!t, and it's getting real old.

Special Teams are a crystal clear window into how good of a coaching staff you have, and this is blatantly awful. Show me one decent head coach that lets this kinda thing happen? Stoops, Beamer, JoePa, Urban, Tressel, etc. What do they all have in common? They DOMINATE on STs, we get outclassed on STs on a weekly basis.

I said earlier that this season was not about Wins & Losses, but about showing that you are developing as a program. Quite to the contrary we're heading in the wrong direction. Rather than improve in our areas of weakness we're letting them snowball into situations where you go to triple overtime against Buffalo. Say it with me, BUFFALO! This was not Toledo, Miami, or even OU. This was BUFFALO! And what do I hear on the post game interview? Gregg Brandon telling me that they're gonna be a "force" (his word) in the MAC East. I got news for ya coach, they're BUFFALO. They are not a force, nor will they ever be a force. In fact, if you believe they are what it takes to become a force, you should be coaching a Peewee league somewhere.

I have never been more pissed off leaving a win in my life. This was just a pethetic effort all around. Horrible playcalling, no emotion on offense, STs disaster after STs disaster, terrible tackling (that worked because Buffalo is...well, BUFFALO!), and stupid penalties as well.

I'm sorry, but I'm done with this staff, they can go the way of the Dodo, as far as I'm concerned, because I don't want to watch it anymore. Did I mention this was BUFFALO!?!? The same Buffalo that needed OT to get to 9 points against TEMPLE!!! Yes, BUFFALO...if we're lucky Brandon will resign in embarrassment because the days where someone would take him off our hands have long since past....:(

hammb. You're ALIVE!

I thought for sure you had three heart attacks in the first quarter alone.

Good to have you back. You're saying quite a bit of what I was saying last year in October. I'm attempting to be pragmatic. But the ST play and the offensive play calling is making that very difficult.

So, in the spirit of "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all", I say good night. ;-)
