Counting Attendance

How is attendance counted - is it by tickets sold or those actually through the gate? We have East side chair backs for 5 years and rarely are they all filled, but they are sold out.

Students, if they aren't charged admission at the gate, are counted based on whether or not they show up.

As for the rest of the stadium, schools can either choose to count butts in seats or count tickets sold at a certain fraction of the top price. That's the way I understand the NCAA's rules, anyway.

We may be taking the butts-in-seats approach -- and I say that based on the fact that faculty and staff were offered free tickets last weekend.

Can you change approaches for each game during a season? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know.

Buffalo has taken the other approach. They reported 29,000 for their opener with Temple, but a lot of that was corporations buying tickets inexpensively and than distributing them as promotions or whatever. Maybe 16,000 or 17,000 actually showed up.

I dont like that rule then. UB's attendance should have been 17,000 then, if thats how many they got to show up. Also it needs to be calculated the same way by every school, every week. I dont like all of the variances!

Wasn't that a notorious New York City gang from the late 1980's?

I'm for whatever makes it easier for MAC programs like ours to stay in I-A. Meaning: We disagree.

They aren't counted.
