Something positive re: special teams

Post by Bleeding Orange »

I don't know if this has been posted already (please don't crucify me if it has - I'll fain appology), but I found this on an ESPN article
Few teams can make as many special-teams errors as Bowling Green did Saturday and still win. The Falcons had a kickoff returned for a touchdown, a punt blocked, a field goal blocked, an extra point blocked and an extra point missed against Buffalo. Amazingly, Bowling Green still won 48-40 in overtime. Place-kicker Sean Ellis, who had a 23-yard field goal blocked, left the game with a hip injury. His status for Saturday's game at Florida International is not known. "We've got to look at some of our schemes, particularly on punting, and some personnel," Bowling Green coach Gregg Brandon told The Toledo Blade. "We've got to do a better job overall. And we will."
I am very happy to read that last line. Of all of the coaching staff comments that I've heard over the last two weeks, this is the most positive thing I have seen, and it is exactly what I have been hoping for all along.

Oh, and I didn't realize that Big Bird left the game because of a hip injury! I honestly thought he was just pulled to give him a break. Here's to hoping that he can get better and get back to doing what he loves soon![/b]

Actually Big Bird's dad mentioned during the tailgate that he actually hurt his hip before the Wisconsin game. He thought that might've explained some of the kickoff issues. It was also the reason that Rojas did the kicking off for the Buffalo game from the beginning.

Yeah, he mentioned something about that to me, but I thought he had said that he just tweaked a muscle or something. I guess I didn't realize that it was in his hip. Must have been the Guinness - you're awesome, B. :-D
