Good news: we won, we had close to 350 yards passing
Bad news: we gave up 314 yards and 28 points to FIU, we also only had 92 yards rushing on 44 attempts (2.1 average).
This was only taken from the box score, I don't know if there defense was that good or if we just couldn't run.

For parts of the game, FIU had the exact right defense called for the plays we ran. It was like they were in the huddle. Also, AT went down with a shoulder/ upper arm injury at one point. We didn't clean their clocks, but, a win is a win. I will take a crappy win anyday over any type of loss!

Watching the game I'll say I was quite happy with how we opened up the offense. Brantley had some BIG recepetions. We completed passes to Brantley, O'Drob, Ruiz, Macon, and Partridge. I like how we looked offensively.
On D we made big plays when we needed to. Our line got good pressure and Antonio Smith was even in on a sack.
A couple of quirky plays let FIU in the game, overall I rate this a B- game. We won on the road and did some good things.
One question I had was on the punt in which we got called for "illegal touching"??? Either the ball is caught and downed at the 1 yard line or it hits the FIU guy and taken away by BG for 6 points- weird play.

I didn't get the "illegal touching" thing, either, unless they said BG batted the ball into the endzone without it touching the return man. I just chalked that one up to the announcers being pretty ignorant.

Huh? I think they settled on ESPN-plus, which = Game Plan, right?
So, I figure it will be over the air in every Ohio market ... and that's it... no matter what.

Their front 7 looked very quick and active. Lots of Florida speed in there.
And they had our running patterns figured out from square one. It was nice to see us take advantage once or twice with pass plays out of our QB sweep formation. I still don't understand why we're running straight QB runs as opposed to zone reads and option plays so much -- maybe Freddie and AT just aren't comfortable with the zone read. It's a pretty easy play to execute though.
I played "call the play" for BG's offense watching the game with my Dad in the second half. I was right about 60% of the time. You can bet FIU's linebackers and DC were right more often than that. They started stacking the line and one side or the other when we did the sneaky QB sweep with Winovich in motion. Freddie was still able to squirt through a couple of holes though.
In the end we did enough to win a tricky road game against an underrated team, and that's commendable. Winning these close games should mature our younger players. Sound like AT will be OK, which is great.
Nice job by Ellis on those FGs by the way! I just wish somebody would tell him to just kick it out of bounds on kickoffs though. Will we go 1 game this year without giving up a ST touchdown?
Big game coming up next weekend that didn't look so big when the schedule came out.

Always great to see us get a win. This wasn't a walk in the park. FIU may be a recent newcomer to D-I, but they've played everyone close this year. To get a win in their home opener is pretty big. I just hope Turner's injury isn't serious. You always want to win a game, but you never want to lose players, especially your starting QB. I hope AT's okay.

First of all, I hope Anthony Turner is okay, he's demonstrated his worth to this team in many ways already. If he misses significant time that will certainly limit what we will be able to do on the offensive side of the ball.
This was a weird game from an offensive standpoint. From what I've heard, we passed the ball all over the place and couldn't run it. Kind of like how it was last year as opposed to what we've seen so far this season. Hopefully the offensive line can rebound as supposedly they weren't very good at run blocking tonight. I'm glad that we showed we can beat teams with the pass though, it should really make coaches think twice about their defensive schemes when they go to play us.
Special teams played a little better tonight, although the return for TD kept FIU in the game and made us sweat quite a bit. We can't be doing that against top tier MAC competition, as for who that constitutes I'm not really sure right now.
I'm glad we won again tonight though, putting us 2-1 on the season heading into a game that has quietly snuck up on us all. Kent State's upset win over Miami today makes next weeks game a showdown for 1st place in the MAC East Division. We haven't played so well at Doyt L. Perry recently and Kent did net a road win today, so we can't afford to take them lightly. That said, I'm not sold on Kent in the least bit, I think Miami sucks more than Kent is good. A win moves us to 2-0 in the MAC, and gives us the upper hand heading into what should be quite a showdown in Athens on September 30th against Ohio. That could end up being the make or break game for us, win and we are firmly in control of our own destiny, a loss against Kent or Ohio, and we're at a disadvantage going into some tougher teams later like Akron, Toledo, and Central Michigan. Let's get the wins early and not worry about coming from behind.
GO FALCONS!!!

I read something on BG's site that it will either be on ESPN+, ABC, or ESPN...Don't believe anything until 12 days before hand...thats when TV makes the official decision...if they see that #1 Ohio State is playing a team that is 3-1 at the time (they will decide Monday after Kent St) then they might put it on ABC...Haven't checked what other good matchups there are though.

how man rush yards did we have? Bgball says 92, ESPN box score say 154...
...I didn't see the game, how did the punting look? ssame formation? according to the ESPN Rojas averaged 47 yards, so that looked good...any blocked?

No blocked punts for Rojas. That was encouraging. Though other parts of our ST's still suck to high heaven thought mainly our kick return and punt return.
