Nice game tonight at FIU. Look very confident when he had the time to get the kicks off and he had a couple booming kicks.
I"m glad we were able to land him.

The kid just needed/needs some time to get adjusted to the game. I'm certain a little Florida homecooking helped tonight.

Does anyone know did we go with a traditional punt formation in today's game or just have better execution of the crappy one? Nice to see Alonso gaining some confidence.

Still the spread, with the 3 "gunners" all on one side. FIU didn't really seem like they tried to come after us on it. We executed better on blocking and the coverage behind it. It's coming along slowly.

Still used a spread formation but a little different. Three guys lined up out on the wide side of the field, and then an actual guard on each side of the center, one more out wide on the short side and three in the backfield. It worked a little better but I am still not thrilled with it.

Also need to say it looks like Ellis had a good night has well. 2-2 Field goals (38 and 25yrds), and it looks like some nice kick-offs, had to have been a deep kick to allow a 98yrd return.
I think both of these guys will be greatly improved by years end and we'll all be confident in their abilities.

Yes, congrats to both Alonso and Sean on fine performances. That punt formation...ummm....well....we didn't get any blocked!!!
With the exception of the 98 yrd kickoff return and a missed XP, the ST's looked better....not great, but better.
GO FALCONS!

Special teams were less calamitous then before, and the kickers were protected and performed well. The kickoff coverage was terrible. Looked to me like the kickoff was pretty good, too.

The 98 yard kickoff return was after a 5-yard offside penalty and re-kick. So it would have been 3 or 4 yards deep in the end zone. His hip-flexor must be feeling better. Both of the FGs were very pretty, but I don't know if the XP was blocked or what happened there.

According to Todd Walker and the guys doing the web cast, someone must have gotten a hand on the XP. It looked ugly so I'm thinking it was deflected.

Not sure about the PAT either...the webcast guys said it may have been tipped at the line IIRC. On the FG's, he drilled them both. The one from 38 yards out would havew been good from 50-55.
Hopefuly, this little southern junket was what they needed to get healthy and untracked. Hving a punter that can flip field position and running game that eats clock could make us VERY tough under the new rules.

Rojas looked poised and comfortable back there. I'm guessing he just played the mind trick of "I'm in Florida, there are about 10,000 empty slat bleachers around me- just pretent it is last year." Not hard to imagine a high school situation for him considering the surroundings and vicinity of mom's home cookin'.

I was very impressed by both of our kickers. They defintely had a watchful eye on them in this game and performed well. About the 98yard KR, the ball was kicked into the endzone for a touchback, but then we had and offsides penalty, whiched moved us back 5 yards and the ball still got kicked down to the 2 which is very impressive. Was it Ellis or Rojas doing the kickoffs?
