Toledo has a 2-for-1 with Purdue again. Man what a great team to have come play at your place. See, good MAC teams can get big schools to come play at their place. Several weeks ago I posted Ohio U's future schedule and it was loaded with bigger named schools, but many dismissed it because it was Ohio and most BCS schools would go there but not to a better MAC team. Well, whether we like it or not, Toledo is one of the better MAC teams. A very nice pick-up for the Rockets. And heck, Purdue lost to Toledo at Toledo not long ago, so they know what they could be in for going there again. They've had schools like Purdue, Minnesota, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Indiana all visit the Glass Bowl recently.

seriously, why the hell can't we get schedules liek that?!?!? I just don't get it. It cant be that they think they can lose, ut has as much upset potential as we do, they beat Pitt LAST YEAR, its fresh in the air and teams wil schedule the glass bowl. what is up with the Doyt?

I am seriously thinking that my statement that there is an NCAA conspiracy against BGSU is actually true. We cant get any cred or benefits or anything anymore. This sucks.

I think Joe Tiller being a Toledo native has more to do with it than anything else.

Let's not under estimate the value of the Boise State series. This can be big for the MAC. Not only do we get no respect against the Big 10, Big 12, etc., we also get very little respect when compared to the WAC and Conference USA. Winning this series could go a long way to make a statement about how the MAC compares to the WAC. Boise is one of the WACs elite teams and ranked 18. I see this as a very important series for our conference.

Also remember that TU frivolously (sp?) spends their cash on "big name" teams to come in. A few years back when we had the Navy serious we had them for a $35k guarantee or something and TU secured them by overpaying about $150 because they felt it was a name.

They may get Purue, but it could be at quite a cost.

Many times in these 2-for-1 deals the little school will not take a payout for the 2nd away game. So it is likely that UT is giving up the big payout they would get for playing at Purdue one year to get them at their place once. They are still probably paying Purdue for that season as well, so you could add the payouts together.

So yes, they are paying quite a bit to get Purdue into their stadium. Personally I think it is WELL worth it and we should look into doing the same.

you're right. tole_o might be paying big or negotiate a little to zero cost buy-out in case purdue gets cold feet and wants out if, for instance, tole_o finds that missing d.

It all comes down to money and whether you are willing to spend it to get "big name" schools in your building--and Boise State isn't "big name" no matter what their ranking. When Toledo first began to get these teams into their building--which was just after the Glass bowl renovation--they did so by guaranteeing 250 G's. How did they come up with that kind of money? They tacked a $10 sur-charge onto the ticket price for those games. (Full house x $10 = 250 G's for the guarantee.) How much of a crowd would there be at BG if ten bucks were added onto the ticket? I'm guessing the athletic department figured not many and so they have never gone this route and we are locked into the SEMO's of the world. Until the athletic department--and the university--gets out of the 1950's and makes a committment to invest some cash into the equation--we'll see more SEMO's than Purdues. All things are possible with cash. You come up with the money--and there are ways(Toledo did it)--and you can get the Fighting Irish in your place. It's all about money and whether the university is willing to come up with it and spend it. Given past history, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Id be happy if we would just stop with the 1-AA's. seriously. It cant be that hard to schedule Sun Belt bottom feeders. Any 1-A team is better than a 1-AA on the schedule. I seriousl wouldnt be opposed to playing a home and home with LA tech or LA monroe etc. It jsut says that we arent jerks and are willing to go places, unlike other big time ohio schools....

Though we are halfway through the season, with 1 home game thus far. i think we are quite credible on traveling to other venues that arent the shoe.....oops! That jsut slipped righ tout there didnt it....

NIU has had the same problem with scheduling some of the big boys.

Our only OOC game scheduled next year is a trip to Evanston to take on the Wildcats. I REALLY wish we are not going to have to schedule another 1-AA team this year but as each passing day goes by, it seems all the more likely.

Couple things. Money is, no doubt, the one and only driver of this issue. If we can start drawing good crowds consistently, in good weather and bad, then I will start to think we could pull the $10 surcharge thing off. And if we CAN pull it off, we should. It would be great for the program. We pay $35 to see the Purdue game @ Purdue---I'd certainly pay $25 to see them here.

It would have to be a lot more than $10/ticket unless you also charge the students.
