Why Burn the Reshirt on Sheehan?
Why Burn the Reshirt on Sheehan?
Did Barnes get hurt? Now you have Turner, Barnes and Sheehan all bunched together eligibiltiy wise.

If Sheehan is the future, I play him the rest of the way and get him ready for the next three years. I also make Barnes a full-time receiver/slot back. Let's face it, AT hasn't shown anything yet except that he is injury prone.

Re: Why Burn the Reshirt on Sheehan?
There are alot of QB's bunched in that FR/SO eligibility area. If it's been determined that AT's shoulder is worse than originally believed and/or Barnes is better as something other than a full-time QB, why not get Sheehan some reps? Worst case scenario, Freddie and AT get a year of experience behind them and they use Sheehan's redshirt next year or the year after, while having Glaud and Hunter as QB's without the redshirt option next year going forward.Rollo83 wrote:Did Barnes get hurt? It's an odd situation, but I don't think playing Tyler today was all that bad of a decision.

Considering our team has no idea who the heck is the leader of our offense, I'm not really surprised by what happened today.
Personally, I think we should keep playing Sheehan, make Turner the back-up and put Barnes into a Wide Reciever role. Even when Barnes was playing, there were some rediculously bad drop passes. We need a better recieving corps. We could still use Barnes for some trick plays, but we need him out there catching passes.
Our offense just hasn't been working. Sheehan is a true Freshman, who probably didn't get too much attention in practice. Having said that, he didn't look too bad. Okay, he threw a pick, and had trouble holding onto the ball, but I think that will improve if we keep playing him for a few games. It still goes back to the fact that teams know we are afraid of throwing the ball, so they are playing close against the line of scrimmage.
And where did Chris Bollock come from? He needs to be on the field from the beginning of the game, not after it is too late to turn things around.
Today was rough. I don't know if we are as bad as we looked, if Kent State is actually a MAC contender, or a combination of the two. Let's just hope we get our heads out of our butts and soon.

We really needed this win. And it was still Kent, and you needed to take a shot at getting it back.
I think AT is the QB we need. But Kent simply wasn't going to let Freddie beat them on the ground, and we are too one-dimensional with him in. As Coach said after the Wisconsin game, "you can't make a living like that." Not sure why he tried.

They pulled the redshirt off of Tyler Sheehan to put him in with one and a half quarters left to play, after the team was down by three touchdowns. It would have been absurd to think that we would have totally shut down their offense for the remainder of the game, which means that our offense would have needed to put at least 6 scores on the board to win the game.orangeandbrown wrote:I think AT is the QB we need. Unless they are seriously considering making Sheehan the starter, I have to put this in the "Bad Idea" collumn. He is buring an entire year of eligibility now that we have played him. Let's face it, by the time he was in, it was a lost cause. I seriously hope that they played him to see if he has what it takes to take over as the starting QB.
Having said that, I think he has a stronger arm than AT or FB. Yes, we had some turnovers. But, he still is a true freshman. If the offense can get it out of their system before next Saturday, the Sheehan/Bollock combination could make things interesting against OU.
Bottom line, we need a better passing game. I don't think that AT or FB will give it to us. And yes, I will admit that I have been pretty high on FB up until this point. But, this was the first time that he really had the chance to open up the passing game, and now we know why. I also don't think that AT would have done much better, simply because I think he is INT prone as well. Sheehan made some pretty explosive plays. I hope they make the decision to make him the starter, stick with it, and get a game plan conducive to winning figured out.

Our offense has no identity right now, and we have no idea how to attack a defense. If Sheehan starts against Ohio, then it was a great idea to get him some game experience today. If he doesn't, it was stupid stupid stupid to burn his shirt.
I hope Sheehan starts just so I don't have to watch any more damn QB sweeps.

if turner is still hurt then start sheehan, if turner can play, play him. our offense is totally different and looks a lot smoother when he plays. its true that our wr's dropped a lot of balls today but lets not forget that barnes had parks wide open in the endzone and over threw him. and, brantley didnt make much of an effort to get to the first down stick on that 4th down play.

My thinking on this is that Coach Brandon wanted to be able to open the offense up and Barnes was limiting what they could do with his inconsistent passing. He has some skill running for sure, but passing is something he needs a lot of work on! I'm hoping that Sheeham will get some serious reps in practice. His balls were all thrown well, except the pick. The mistakes he made could be attributed to being a true freshmen and nerves. Let's hope he can open our offense back up!
"It's not fast food, it's good food quickly!"
Its quite Simply, Barnes cant pass and needs to move to WR/RB. Turner is the QB with experience who can pass and run, but is always hurt. Sheehan looks to have some great potential as a passer and runner, but has no experience. When it comes down to it, we need to play Turner when he gets healthy, if Turner is hurt then i think we go with Sheehan because he has the tools to execute our passing attack.

I will say I liked what I saw out of Sheehan today. For being thrown into the mix as a true freshman, down 24-7 midway through the third quarter, he did okay. I think he's got a bright future ahead of him. But on the other hand, I hated seeing his red-shirt taken off in this game. I guess it might have come off due to a few things. Maybe Turner is going to be out longer than a week or two, and with the way Barnes has struggled throwing the ball, Sheehan just might be our starter next weekend. Or maybe Turner is coming back next week and we're pulling the plug on Barnes at QB and they wanted to give Sheehan some reps today. Who knows.
GO BG!!!
