The moral of this story is that this team will likely be very very good in a year or two. Two things must happen. The players must improve.
and...more importantly.... the coaches must improve. Maybe some half time adjustments, that would be good to see atleast once. Some better playcalling as well. Also fundamentals on D, teaching our players to tackle. And of course. The f'in special teams.

Here here Niz! Yes, Rojas shanked one vs Kent. But he and Big Bird have gotten much better. Ellis is 3/4 on FG tries and has been hitting his kickoffs into the end zone...which I love. The Niz wrote:The special teams deserves a lot less harping after the last couple games. They have shown marked improvement; especially in punting.

If you're counting Ruiz and Brantley for NEXT YEAR, you've got to revise this as both will be gone after this season.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
Not to start an argument, but I feel the need to point out that Rojas shanked a Rugby punt. To me, that is the big difference.Falconfreak90 wrote:The Niz wrote:Here here Niz! If we would let him kick all conventional style punts, I think we wouldn't be having this conversation. If we want a rugby punter, then the coaches should walk across campus and find one.
Before the game I saw Rojas warming up. He punted the ball from the North 45, and it landed in the construction site. It didn't bounce into the construction site, it landed in the construction site. The boy has a cannon, and he can put a tight spiral on the ball when he punts.....when we allow him to do a conventional punt.
Go Falcons!

Honestly the first thing that came to mind on that play was he was trying to draw a foul. I was down on the sideline and I couldn't believe my eyes. My first thought was 'this isn't basketball, wtf are they doing?'. Immediately after the play Brandon pulled him to the side like he did something wrong but I couldn't figure out exactly what it was Brandon was wanting him to do. It was definately the rugby play on the field but I believe, and this may be way out in left field, that Rojas was told to try and get hit and let the penalty give us our first down. VERY unconventional if in any way true, but that was the immediate impression I got. I didn't understand it because like you said, he has dynamite in that foot!mmisbg wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:Not to start an argument, but I feel the need to point out that Rojas shanked a Rugby punt. Yeah right girl!
Oorah!
Oorah!
With the wind at his back, he could have kicked it the length of the field. Looked to me like, with a few blockers in front of him, he could have run for the first down. Perhaps the rugby option was to see what pressure was there and run for it if open. He chose to kick it. My thought at the time was " Geez, he probably would have had a first if he kept it". Maybe GB was telling him the same thing.
