Saturday is the season, IMO

This saturday in athens, ohio is the season for the falcons IMO. If we want any chance of getting to the MACC this year we need to bring it together and win saturday because if we lose two straight MAC east games, we would have to run the table mostly likely minus the OSU game to get there. It would be so huge for this young team to be able to play in a championship game this early. I whole heartedly expect for us to go into athens and come home with a victory. What are your thoughts?

Sville, I absolutely agree with this assertion. Ohio is 1-0 in conference, and a loss to them puts us down by 1.5 games with 5 to play, possibly by 2 to Kent as well depending on whether they beat Akron (I think they play Akron this week). It's not reasonable to think that we will run the table by beating CMU, Akron, AND Toledo all on the road. We're gonna stumble in at least one of those games, I think CMU being the most probable. That being said, we need this one if we want to finish with 6 wins in conference, which barring a miracle run through the MAC by Kent State, should get us to the MAC Championship Game.

If we are going to contend for the East, we can't afford to drop to two losses with games @CMU, Akron and Toledo still on the schedule. My personal opinion is--as it has been since the end of last season--that .500 will be an accomplishment for this team. Having said that, we're as much in it as anyone else is.

We need this win Saturday, not just for the conference standings but for the this teams fragile ego. A win will pick these young guys up for the rest of the season. I am afraid what a loss may do.

Spart: My feelings exactly. While I always want the Falcons competing for the MAC title, at this point I'm more concerned with the team's (and the program's) longer-term prognosis. A loss to Ohio, then a sure beating in Columbus could create some very ugly momentum.

Absolutely. BG wins this game and we can turn the ship back in the right direction. A loss and it's not going to be pretty the rest of the season. Matter of fact, it could be downright brutal.

That being said, I EXPECT to see this team show up in Peden Stadium with a big sense of urgency ready to take out all the frustration of last weekend on Ohio. NOBODY says we're done until WE say we're done. Got it, coaches & team? I'm not driving over 2 hours to see another poor effort from the whole bunch like last week.

GO FALCONS!!!! WHACK THE CATS!

I realize this may be a redundant question, but what has happened to
our wide open offense? It is certain with Barnes at quarterback this will
not happen. However, I do miss the days when we would pass and run
up and down the field. Is it our receivers or have we moved away from
this type of offensive scheme? I would love to see Turner in this
week and throw the ball like the BG of the past. I really miss that
offense. As for the OU game, it was a game that I asserted from
the beginning of the semester I didn't think we would win. As of know,
I still stand by my prediction. Hope I am wrong.

I agree, anthony. We saw flashes of it in the UB game (esp. the OT's), but the overriding theme is run, run, run.

anthony,

One reason the wide open offense has disappeared is many of our WR's cannot seem to catch the ball...at least in the first 4 games. ANother reason is AT has missed 2 games, Wisky and KSU. Barnes, while a better runner at QB, doesn't have the passing skills of AT yet. Teams know Barnes isn't a big threat passing and will stack the box with 8 or 9 dudes to stop our running game.

If we go down to Athens and get a win on Saturday, I am really going to be even more upset about what happened at the Doyt last Saturday.

I think that the season is already done. It is so absurd for me to even think we can play with Akron or Toledo when we can't play with Kent that this OU game does not even matter.

I don't know why you'd be surprised, or angry for that matter. We play so much better on the road than we do at home. Look at the last 9 games we've played. 4-0 on the road, 1-4 at home, with the one win happening in triple overtime. I'm glad our tough games are on the road this year, we stand a much better chance winning them in a road environment where we actually seem to get up for games. Since coming to BG in the Fall of 2005, I have only seen 2 falcon wins at the Doyt compared with 4 losses, and in each game (with the exception of Toledo last year), there has been a noticeable lack of fire, heart, and guts from the team. I don't think we have that problem on the road for some reason.

Matela, has it ever occurred to you that Kent State might be better than Akron and Toledo this year. I think this may be the case, seeing as Kent has won in Oxford and BG already. Akron visits Kent this week for the annual Battle for the Wagon Wheel, so we will see on this one. The typical "tiered" system in the MAC between lower and higher teams has already been busted up big time this season IMO.

I'm also waiting on the Akron-Kent game to decide if I really should be bashing Kent State for beating up on us as bad as they did. All I know is that they are 2-0 in the MAC while we are 1-1. They are obviously doing something right. If they can pull a win out against the Defending MAC champs then they really are the team to beat this year. But I'm not saying that a loss to Akron would mean that they suck any worse. Personally, that Akron-Kent game appears to be the game that may decide the MAC East title. But then again, it could all just be a whole lot of luck. Either way, the BG-Kent game is in the past and the BG-Ohio game is only 2 days away!!
Go Falcons!! Beat the Bobcats!!
