If the miracle happens...
Let's take a trip into fantasyland. No, I'm not predicting a BGSU victory tomorrow, but if it did happen....
1) Would we be ranked in the next poll?
2) Would we be expected to win the rest of our games?
3) Would OSU fall out of the top 10?
4) Would Brandon get a pass for the rest of this year? the rest of his contract? does "The Doyt" get renamed "The Gregg"?
5) Would we sell out The Gregg for the EMU game?
6) How much would our recruiting improve the next few years?
7) Would OSU or any of the other top-tier teams ever schedule us again?
8 ) If OSU would go on and lose to Michigan, would there be a noticeable faction of OSU fans calling for Tressel's firing?

1. Doubt it, though BG would receive a good number of votes
2. No. I think most would realize that it was more of a fluke, the Bucks looking past BG, or something of the like.
3. Yes. Deservedly so.
4. As an outsider, I would hope a coach wouldn't get a pass based on one game against a non-rival, non-conference opponent.
5. No idea.
6. All victories help recruiting, but I don't think there would be a stampede of people choosing BG based on the vicotry. It may help sway those that are being recruited by MAC and lower tier Big 10, 12 and East players though.
7. Miami U. has pulled off upsets, as have other non-BCS schools, so I think teams would still schedule you.
8. The flaw in your thinking is that you believe Tressel would still have his job come Monday.

1) Would we be ranked in the next poll?
Nope, not even close
2) Would we be expected to win the rest of our games?
Nope
3) Would OSU fall out of the top 10?
Nope, but probably close
4) Would Brandon get a pass for the rest of this year? the rest of his contract? Pass from whom?
does "The Doyt" get renamed "The Gregg"?Nope, not even close
5) Would we sell out The Gregg for the EMU game?Nope, not even close
6) How much would our recruiting improve the next few years?
Because of a single win? Probably not much, though it might help in some instances
7) Would OSU or any of the other top-tier teams ever schedule us again?
Yes. They'd certainly see this as a fluke
8 ) If OSU would go on and lose to Michigan, would there be a noticeable faction of OSU fans calling for Tressel's firing? Doubtful

Consistency is a poor arguement to make in this situation.So...a single win over non conference opponent wouldn't be enough to earn a season's pass but a loss would be reason enough to fire Tressel?
Where's the consistency in that?
BG is not at the same place football-wise as OSU. A loss to an in-state opponent that has had trouble with Buffalo, FIU, and Kent State is absolutely unacceptable.
A BG win would be great for the BG program. But, if the team folds after the victory and looses all the other games, and badly, then what? Proving that you can motivate your team to play the game of their lives against the #1 team in the country is much different than proving you can recruit and compete in your own conference. A victory would probably save his job for a season (barring something exceptional happening), but he can't keep using that one victory as job security. He needs conference wins and championships for that.

You just can't help yourselves, can you? You have to be arrogant and condescending towards MAC schools. For your information, BGSU has beaten ranked Big 10 opposition in the past. In 1992 and 2003 we damn near beat you people in your stadium...in both games you were helped mightily by "hometwown" officiating.
It is true that this year's team has struggled some agianst conference foes, but we rang up close to 300 yards on the ground against the Badgers this year. WIth better special teams play we would have been in a positin to win that game as well.
You can say that you expect to beat us this weekend...I think you'll win too, but to come onto this board and say that a loss to us would be so far outside the realm of the possible that you would immediately fire your coach displays not only a sense of arrogance, but a true ignorance of history

How am I being condesending? To expect the #1 ranked team to, at home, beat a squad with many young players, that has turned over the ball and had other misques against other opponents, and that Buffalo took to OT?
Your 2003 team was a much better than this year's team. BG, and many other MAC schools, has beaten ranked opponents. But this year's BG squad has not proven itself capable of doing that.
The "that he would have a job come Monday," was somewhat tounge-in-cheek. I seriously doubt that Tressel would be immediatly fired. However, he would lose many of his supporters, and a loss to Michigan would further erode that support. The past few years would most likely buy a few seasons of job security, but that is all. A loss could be viewed as the turning point/downfall of his tenure (think Miami's loss in the National Championship game for Coker, or the Rose Bowl for Solich the year before).
